Report of the month # 3

( this one kinda long so prepare to waste some minutes of your life )


Month Report


Finally i can show you this thing ive been working on this last month, but first of all lets contextualize. I just recently started spriting, at least in a "serious" manner, so lets say my sprites were not too exceptional. I get that design and graphics is not that big of a deal in this type of game, but yet knowing that, im excited to show you guys my progress and also the new graphics/design style the game is going to follow. I'm first going to show you a couple of old sprites, comment them a bit and then go ahead to show you my new sprites.

Here we got the protagonist, guess this is also kind of a reveal, but you could already figured it out a bit by the banner and this fella being in the middle. The main problem with this sprite may not be explicitly the shadows ( Although they are pretty simple ), but the pose, pretty lifeless, and well, these first sprites were made with a base so its expected a static pose. Yet, as a conceptual sprite wasnt that bad.

This one has the exact same problems of the last one, since it doesnt only have a pretty simple and unnoticeable shadowing, but also a static pose.

This one was my first sprite with no base, i dont dislike the shape or the pose at all, because even the pose not being complex, it has i believe a little more life in it, but the main problem here is the shadowing, not because is unnoticeable, but because its not managed quite well and it looks kinda off in some parts, if not most.


Alright, having those three shown, i can go ahead and show yall the new versions of each one.

Here i could fix the pose problem although not changing it that much, also, i started a more intense shadowing, maybe not specifically in this sprite shows, but in others you will see what i mean. Luckily, i stopped using bases and started making all sprites from scratch, it helped me develop my style a little further.

Alright what did i not change about this guy?, Kinda kept the original concept but turned it upside down, the last version looked more like a kid, this new version has more of a full ass grown man vibe, i prefer this one a millon times.

And finally, we got this big guy over here. Thing is, i changed this sprite quite a lot and didnt touched the lines a bit, only the shadowing and a couple minor details. As you can see, the shadows i want to believe are more coherent, fixing the main problem of his old version. This sprite is truly one of my favourites of the lasts i did.


Welp, this is isnt of course all i did this month, but i perceive it as the most "showable" of all, and im quite proud of my progress. I wouldnt mind to read your opinions on these new sprites i made, thanks for reading, i will put a little list of what other things i did this month and then i think we could finish.


Other things done this month:

  • Finished the concepts of the main antagonists, finally.

  • Made a significant change in the party members available, it may be something more lineal than Painful-like, but we'll see.

  • Focused more in the story line than zone composition.
