The Flipside - Development Update! 5/18/25

You know what this is. Let's start.

Demo Completion?!?!

The demo is VERY close to being done and is complete in a sense that you can play it from start to finish with almost no bugs. The following list is what must be done:

  • Some tidy-up (extra lore notes, vhs tape, etc)

  • Steam page

  • Shadow City completion

  • OST

  • Playtesting wrap-up

Now you may be excited, but you are nowhere NEAR as excited as I am. This demo and game as a whole is something I am very proud to say is something I MADE.

(Side note, I just looked at the OG plans for The Flipside and I wasn't planning on revealing details until 60-70% completion, and yet here we are.)

Boss Fights

This may seem weird but, I want to touch on them.

Most, if not all RPGs and JRPGs have cool, cinematic encounters! And while that is true here, they serve as set pieces more than anything else.

I created a scene in the demo over a week-ish that made me realize that I prefer making cinematic sequences and scenes over programming and testing a seven minute boss fight.

And I have a very special idea for a boss fight down the line...

TP Removal

I have decided to REMOVE TP as a spell currency.

Why?

Because it over-complicates things when it could be more simple. Which is what I'm going for with the combat. I'm glad I made this choice now as only one spell in the demo used TP so I just have to adjust it, remove the TP parts from the Manual and Tutorial and we should be good to go!

The battle system UI as a whole is also pretty much complete, took a bit of messing around with some plugins but I got it working how I want. I've just been entirely working on other stuff.

Shadow City

It's been moving decently slow. It's picked up a little bit but not a whole lot. What I can tell you though is that it has been very fun to work on! Writing the NPCs and 'plot' of the area, designing the location itself, it's just a blast whenever I DO decide to work on it. :)

All in all, development is going great! I'm happy with how the game is coming out, even if its a slow burn. Also I know it's annoying but if you want more exclusive teasers and such go check out my YouTube:

May God bless all of you and I'll see ya soon!
