🇺🇸 Welcome to this fangame's first Devlog!


Skullrune has sailed and is set to cross the 7 seas!

After a long time, we're proud to show you the work that we've been working on. And there are surprises!

Even Lancer is up for it!

Before we start, if there's someone that doesn't know about this project that we're about to show, here's a brief summary of the most important aspects.

Let the incursion begin! ^^

This fangame reimagines the world and lore of Deltarune into a society of pirates. Things have changed! Who doesn't want to embark onto the Dark Waters? Or find the Deltarune?

That is without counting with the big amount of treasures to discover!

And like in the original game, we will too divide this project into chapters! Being our primary focus first:

What will this chapter be about?

Kris and Susie, residents of HomeIsland, will head out to the bay because ... a pirate ship has been spotted! And while the whole town evacuates, this couple of good friends will head towards the danger due to their fascination for pirates. And... by accident fall into the Dark World?

This is the premise of Chapter 1!

As you can imagine, we have the base story written and summarized. We only have to shape it and work on the hard aspects.

Of course, the introduction script aswell as the first secret boss are ready! Since Skullrune will have 3 secret bosses! :D

Another thing to highlight: There'll be a Snowgrave Route since the first chapter, although we're not gonna call it like that.

We all decided that'll it be named as Skullgrave.

It's time to talk about the art design!

Our team has gone through massive work to achieve the final versions of the protagonists and other characters. Next up here are lots of concept art designs of Ralsei, to show what we're talking about:

That's how Ralsei's old design looked like. Our main problem was to decide which captain hat he should wear... But now we have his final version:

That's the main trio! And what about the Dark World versions of Kris and Susie? Don't worry! Because here they are:

And to celebrate that this is our first Devlog, we also wanna show you the final design of future "captain" Lancer! ^^

We also did some NPC concept arts that will show up through the game. Their designs are already made in pixel art, but now we'll show you this:

And we haven't forgotten! Here's the finished mapping of what HomeIsland will be. One of the starting zones and very important in chapter 1.

For now we'll leave the art topic aside. We still have a lot of things to show you like the designs of the secret bosses, but that'll be for future Devlogs! :D

We know that this section is one of the most awaited ones.

The music of Deltarune is a true treasure, and many fangames have created some majestic compositions... And we want to be at that level too!

Our musicians have worked hard to bring you up music pieces able to induce that feeling of playing Deltarune... but different, with more pirate-esque tones.

And we're proud to share these two tracks with you!

One of this tracks is available in Checherex's channel, one of the fangame's main composers. We recommend to subscribe to the channel because more Skullrune tracks will be posted in the future.

Each time we'll do a Devlog, we'll post one or two new tracks! So don't miss out on future posts! ^^

The programming has been, and still is, a whole challenge. Before working on the game we have to program the base code, once it's polished and with the fewest bugs possible.

Here we have some progress!

Everything is too green for the time being.

We recently had to redo a lot of the elements that you've seen in the videos, and well, this one's a more polished result:

Not bad, right? :D

Is clear that it will take a looooong time to achieve some good base gameplay and perfected mechanics in order to get to actually work on the rest of the game.

But we're optimists! We still have lots of programming elements saved as diagrams... which we will show in the next Devlogs since they're related to secret bosses ;)

At least we're young and energetic! ^^

The world and lore of Skullrune... fused with that of Yellow?

How would that work...? Ah, yes, like this:

So don't worry! This started as a joke which ... well, it got out of hand.

Sincerely, we wouldn't mind doing something about it, but we have to focus on Skullrune. Maybe in the future? Or maybe they'll appear in the same fangame? Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's it now for real, that'll be all for Skullrune's first Devlog.

This past months have been a roller coaster of emotions, but after too much hard work, being able to write our progress brings us great satisfaction.

Finally our fangame is coming to light!
