What advice would you give a new dev? #Devruary

START. SMALL.

I'm talking Flappy Bird, Brick Breaker, Pong level small.

Trying to make GTA 20 as your first project? That's a one-way ticket to burnout town. Walk before you run.

"But why? I wanna make my own GTA with cats and aliens!"

Because small wins keep you going. In life, in gamedev, everywhere.

Game development is HARD. It demands planning, discipline, and constant problem-solving. Starting with something small means you won't spend 6 months on a project that never sees the light of day.

Small games teach you the fundamentals without drowning you in complexity. They're your safe space to mess up, learn, and iterate WITHOUT wanting to throw your computer out the window. The simpler your first projects, the faster you'll see results, and the sooner you'll have something you're actually proud to share.

Now stop reading and GO MAKE YOUR GAME!

Which game dev inspires you most? #Devruary

Scott Cawthon. The man took a simple mechanic and iconic characters and created a CULTURAL PHENOMENON.

Don't agree with everything he stands for, but his creativity as a dev is undeniable.

#GJAsks Hide and Shriek deserves SO much more attention! I'm not the type to play multiplayer games, but GOD I can't stress enough how much fun I had playing this game. The concept and the gameplay itself are so simple, but they work SO. FREAKING. WELL.

#Devruary What engine are you using in your current game? Unity! It has been my go-to tool for years now. It gets the job done and I know my way around it pretty well. But if Godot keeps walking by with that big open-source energy... đź‘€

What’s the biggest dev mistake you’ve made? #Devruary Not leaving doomed projects sooner, skipping version control early on, and... GetComponent() in Update(). I wasn't born a coding genius, okay?? And I guess we've all been there, right?? ...RIGHT??

What's your favorite game that does a lot with a simple idea? #GJAsks Say No! More! The game is literally just pressing one button to yell "NO!" at your coworkers, and somehow that's one of the most cathartic and hilarious experiences I've ever had!

Decided to give an old model a new life with some fresh renders! This is a model I originally made back in 2016 for a university project in Maya, and now it's glowing up with the power of the open-source gods (thanks, Blender 🙏). #3DArt #Blender

How do you deal with burnout? #Devruary

Honestly? I just... step away. Stop coding.

The irony is that as a game dev, I rarely have time to actually PLAY games anymore. So when burnout hits, I try to play games that are nothing like what I'm developing.

What feature almost broke your game? #Devruary Hack'n'slash combat system. College project. Peak overconfidence meets peak inexperience.

The feature died so the game could live (barely). Lesson learned: scope management is a SKILL.

How Do You Usually Plan A Game Dev Project? #Devruary First, I dump ideas into a paper notebook like a game dev from the stone age. Then I tame the chaos using draw.io, Hack'n'Plan, and Notion. This pipeline works pretty well for me!

Hey everyone! I said I’d be back with more game dev tips, and here I am! This time, I brought something special to help you promote your work online and reach a bigger audience!
