The Return to Freddy's 3 is the third installment in the TRTF Saga. The game is the first sequel in the series, even though it's confusingly set in the same year as The Return to Freddy's Classic (see trivia below for more information). The next game in the series is The Return to Freddy's 4.

Plot Summary

A new entertainment is close to opening its doors and reveal the legend from the past. They only have a few more things to salvage before it officially opens. The new entertainment is to be called Fazbear Fantasy Land.

Gameplay

The player assume the role Blake, and he must survive from 12AM to 6AM. He has a monitor and control panel with on it: "View Animatronic", to see Lockjaw's location; "Repair Door Lock", to repair the door; "Corrupt Signal", to avoid Chica, Foxy and Vigo in the left hallway. If this isn't done the player will die resulting in a Game Over.

Development History

It is unknown exactly when The Return to Freddy's 3 began development, although the earliest mention of the game we still currently have is a Steam post from March 20th, 2015 referring to a now deleted livestream showcasing in-development gameplay of The Return to Freddy's 3.[1] The Game Jolt page for The Return to Freddy's 3 was created on March 30th, 2015 about ten days after this livestream.[2] After the page was made, the teaser trailer for TRTF 3 was uploaded to YouTube on the same day, showing a 30-second video of Lockjaw slumped on the floor. Tyler also mentioned that the release date for the official trailer was unknown at the time. Until April 5th, 2015, the official trailer was later uploaded to YouTube.

On April 1st, 2015, Tyler released the demo version of the game since he didn't have time to hand out alpha tests for V.I.Ps.[3] However, it turned out to be a troll game on April Fools' Day. Later, Tyler would release the teaser images showcasing the animatronics who would appear in the game and a new design for Kitty FazCat on the website. Around May 2015, Tyler released the pre-release versions with several changes to fix bugs in the game. Until May 15th, 2015, the full game was released on Game Jolt, and at the time, it became the highest-rated game in the series for its disturbing atmosphere.

Major Updates

The Return to Freddy's 3 was planned to receive a major update in 2016 (along with all of the other games from Volume 1), which would have added new pieces of lore and characters to the game such as Lynda. All of these major updates were eventually cancelled however, until they were revived and put under the control of TannerFeline in 2017, until the Major Updates were eventually cancelled again. In 2018, it was revived once more with ShaneTheBarbarian being tasked with modelling all of the animatronics for the third game. The Major Updates were eventually cancelled yet again however.

Trivia

  • In the trailer for the game, Lockjaw was intended to puke blood during the twitching scene, though Tyler Ahlström was unable to do this.

  • TRTF 3 was speculated to take place in 1992, as the closing ending states that Lockjaw was first made 34 years ago, plus the Nightmare Fuel section in TRTF 4 states that Frank Burt's Pizza opened in 1958. However, according to TRTF: The Dreadful Truth, the game took place in 2015, even though TRTF 1 was set in the same year.

  • The update for this game would’ve added what at first looked like the Lynda.

  • The demo of this game is a troll game. It was a glitchy platformer where the player had to try to make it to the end of an impossible level. The only way to win was to press the B, F, P, and one key at the same time, which teleported the player to the end of the level.

    • The music and render on the title screen were different from the full game.

  • The theme for the final version is a distorted mashup of the TRTF 2 & 3 menu themes.

  • Sometimes, when the game starts up, one of the three rare images of Lockjaw may appear.

  • If one hits DELETE while on the menu, the game will flash images of Lockjaw and Shadow Lockjaw along with the game over static and the jumpscare noise playing many times quickly.

  • The scene in the trailer with Lockjaw and the kid singing is similar to the Five Nights At Freddy's two trailer with the camera panning to the right to reveal Bonnie, with some kids singing London Bridge is Falling Down in the background.

  • The Return to Freddy's 3 is the only game in TRTF Volume 1 where the player doesn't have to worry about a limited power supply.

  • Currently it and the rest of the Volume 1 games are getting remasters. (Which are now cancelled)

  • According to the game's extras menu there was going to be a Co-Op mode in a future update, but it never released for unknown reasons.

  • The "BACKSTORY" minigame erases all of the save data upon completion. Main gameplay progress (Nights 1-5) would not be changed, but you would risk losing completion stars, extra nights, and the Extras Menu.
