What do you think?

Ok so I’ve played through the demo and here are my thoughts

Flipside

Praises

  • Title card is really funny, keep the sound effects

  • Bunnyhopping is really fun and fast

  • Quest system is REALLY cool and useful. Sometimes in ut/dr im a little lost on what to do so not only does this fix that but it’s helps you keep track of everything

  • ā€œGoddess aboveā€ is foreshadowing I swear

  • Mira shoots an arrow when she attacks and it’s charming

  • Background changes depending where you are in the world, like different areas of an area have different BGs, and a surprising amount of variety!

  • Fnaf 4 reference was awesome. He’s gonna stick his brother in my mouth (THEY’RE BREAD)

  • Enemies chasing you on the map was funny as hell cuz I got to try to run away from them and almost soft locked my gamešŸ˜‚ chase scenes scarier than the ones in mascot horror games lowkey

  • Well hidden item bag behind a crate

  • Wanderer being able to defend is pretty cool, to bad it’s pointless lol

Suggestions

  • The castle is missing 2 pixels in the exposition and it’s driving me insane

  • The fact that normal civilians have been corrupted and ā€œfallenā€ could lead to you killing somebody’s friend that was corrupted and then that person seeking vengeance and fighting you

  • Add more orchestral instruments to wanderer’s theme to make it sound more epic

  • More stuff on the title screen, like foreshadowing future locations

  • Mira could be reminiscing on her old life, family, and friends

  • Wanderer (and future enemies) can use items or magic

Complaints

  • The meeting with Marco song has this awkward chord at the end lol

  • Saving should automatically heal you

  • Maybe there’s a reason to this yet to be revealed but if humans have been here before how did none of them escape?Beginning areas (cave and first part of the mainland place) should have music it’s kinda scary

  • Bark knight SHOULD have his own theme

  • Cave should also have its own theme

  • You kinda do nothing in the first cave, a unique enemy maybe?

  • There wasn’t many other things to interact with in the environment besides the buff bread and his 800 wives

  • Fighting was kinda boring. When it was just 1 enemy I’d just spam attack and kill and when there’s 2 I actually had to strategize, but also all the enemies feel the same. Defending felt pointless cuz all it would do is make that 1 character take less damage, which is a net negative. Maybe take inspo from PokĆ©mon and final fantasy to make the fights more unique and diverse

Bugs

  • Layering issue while jumping below hitboxes, like the trees kinda clip into Mira

  • Jumping is kinda wonky when you spam it but that I honestly don’t care about its funny

so overall, I think it’s pretty decent probably needed more time in the oven but it’s a demo so I’ll always cut slack. From the inspirations you listed, this seems like it has some potential! Aight I can’t write conclusions

me friendo told me about this game, it looks cool

FAQ

Q: When's the full game coming out?
A: I'm hoping to release before the end of 2027. But there's these two little creatures called "responsibilities" and "procrastinating" that really mess with a guy's plans.

Q:Ā How long is the demo?
A: About an hour or so. It can vary from player to player. If you're a JRPG veteran you'll probably finish it in less time.

Q:Ā How long will the full game be?
A: I've estimatedĀ 5-6 hours. But doing extra content could easily increase it to 7-8 hours.

Q: Will you port the game on MacOS/Linux?
A: Maybe. I don't own a MacOS laptop nor do I own a machine running Linux. PortsĀ mightĀ come in the future but I can't promise that they'll be well tested, or that they'll run well.

Q: Can I stream or upload a playthrough of the game?
A: But of course! I encourage in fact! Player reactions are my favorite part of development. All I ask is you link this page (or the Steam page when that exists) in the description of the video/stream.

Q: THIS DEMOĀ SUCKED!!! WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS GARBAGE GAME?!?!
A: Don't ask me, it's not like I made the game.

So, random thought:

The Flipside gets a mini-series adaptation, who are you casting for Mira, Marco, The Wanderer, and Bark Knight? (the only publicly known characters so far)
