NOTE: the following description is a PREDICTION of what the final game will look like. The images and/or videos above, however, are not.
OmniTanks is a 2D/3D hybrid tank shooter. I don't mean that parts of the game are 2D and other parts are 3D; I mean you can choose to play in either 2D or 3D. There are 3 modes: 2D top-down; 3D top-down orthographic; and 3D first-person (first-tank?) perspective. You can switch between perspectives with a simple push (or touch) of a button.
You play as an electric tank, mounted on an omni-directional movement system. What does that mean? It means unlike most tank shooters, you can strafe or even move diagonally. There are 2 movement styles: omni-polar and omni-mechum. omni-polar uses a circular chassis, while omni-mechnum uses a more familiar rectangular chassis.
In addition to the different drive styles, there are also different parts to be found and/or bought. These will include wheels, plating, weapons, batteries, motors, and more. You will be able to use these to change many different aspects of your tank. However, every part will increase your weight and/or battery usage; you will need to plan out your design!
There is no 'life' bar; any 'damage' you take will drain your battery. In addition, using your weapons and other systems (even moving!) will also drain your battery, though at a significantly slower rate. As your battery drains, you will begin to move slower, and certain weapons may even cease to function! You will have to be smart with your actions!
The tank
Each tank is made up of a few base parts, plus addition upgrades. The base parts are chassis, plating, battery, motors, and wheels.
chassis: the chassis affects the drive style, maximum weight, and available upgrade slots. The chassis also contains the base weapon of OmniTanks - the energy sphere cannon.
motors: motors affect weight, speed and battery drain due to movement. only some motors will work with some chassis.
wheels: wheels affect weight and speed. only omni wheels will work with omni-polar chassis, and only mechnum wheels will work with meconium chassis.
battery: batteries affect weight and maximum battery life. Additionally, some motors, weapons, and upgrades require a maximum voltage of the battery. battery: can be equipped to any power receiving point; however, it is recommended at least one be left empty for charging mid-level.
plating: plating affects defense and weight. Additionally, some sophisticated plating will also actively draw battery power at all time.
upgrades and weapons: upgrades and weapons can be equipped in applicable power output ports. Upgrades can include a radar module and a scanning device. weapons can include jammers and bolt projectors.
decorations: you can also find/buy decorative items for your tank. Some of these can affect your total weight. They can be equipped on pre-defined areas of the tank.
Upgrading your tank
You can upgrade your tank at any time from the main menu. Additionally, some levels may contain a 'remote access point' that lets you perform maintenance, charge your battery, and, upgrade your tank mid-level.
Campaign mode
Each level will present a set of challenges to overcome. These may include puzzles, enemies, mazes, and even upgrades you have to find.
As you progress through the campaign, you may want to go back and re-visit levels to get items you may not have been able to acquire before.
Sandbox mode
Create or play custom levels! Using a built-in level editor, you can create your own levels you can then share with the world! Create a custom campaign, an inspiring message, or just something random!
Online mode
Play locally or online with friends, Using specially designed multiplayer maps, or levels created in sandbox mode. Supports up to 8 players (4 locally).
Cross-platform
OmniTanks is available on most platforms: Windows, Windows 8 via the Windows Store, Windows 10 UWP via the Windows Store, Linux, Android, Amazon Fire, and Windows Phone. Better yet, it's always the SAME version on each device, so no annoying "we don't have it on the same device so we can't play together".
Why not OSX and iOS? Because I really don't feel like paying $100 a year for a developer license for 2 platforms. This may change in the future if the demand for this game is high enough and I have the money.
Controller support
OmniTanks supports the usage of controllers to play. In fact, it's recommended.

Save/Loading Demo
There is a working save/load feature now, that allows the game to be saved at any point in a level. The save, like all files and network packets used by the game, is encrypted with a 76-byte key, to prevent hacking.
