Hello everyone. Even though it's been 4 days since the release of the Aftonbuilt Alpha, we've noticed a lot of people still not being sure what's going on with the game. To make it easy for everyone, we're making a big "Frequently Asked Questions" post here, to answer as many questions as possible. The post will be updated accordingly as new questions appear.
Let's begin the FAQ.
Question 1: Is Aftonbuilt gonna be finished?
Answer: Due to Scott declining Aftonbuilt for the Fazbear Fanverse, we don't have the budget to properly finish the game and make it as good as we wanted it to be. Over 2 years, we were on a good path towards it being included, but sadly last week, Scott decided the game is not worth the risk, and said he's not interested in Aftonbuilt being in the Fanverse anymore.
As such, unless a miracle happens and Scott changes his decision, the fate of the game is currently unknown.
Question 2: What's the reason Aftonbuilt was declined by Scott? What do you mean by it being too much of a risk?
Answer: As I am legally unable to give the definitive answer to the question, I can say the main reason.
Scott, ever since we started talking with him about Aftonbuilt, has often mentioned the game is a big risk for him, due to the game being "way too ambitious".
Last week, even though everything was going smoothly so far, he decided to tell us that he doesn't want Aftonbuilt to be part of the Fanverse anymore, as well as told us if we ever think of a new game, we should contact him.
Question 3: Is it possible for the community to donate to you to finish the creation of the game? What about a fundraiser?
Answer: As fundraisers or taking any sort of monetary payment for a FNaF Fangame is illegal, we're not allowed to do that.
We asked Scott if we could get the community to crowdfund the game if he finds it too risky to fund himself, but as unfortunate as it is, he had absolutely no interest in allowing us to proceed with that.
Question 4: Do you think Scott did the right decision to decline the inclusion of Aftonbuilt to the Fanverse?
Answer: As I am part of the team, I can't say I'm not a little biased. However, I can personally say that the Jelatine Development Team are the most wonderful people I've ever been working with. The amount of effort and passion they've putting into everything is just outstanding. The moment we have been informed that Scott Cawthon has decided that he's no longer in Aftonbuilt to be included in the Fanverse, everyone was straight up heartbroken.
I can't say that I blame Scott, he's a businessman after all, I understand he feared the game would've been too big to get finished.
But personally? I think with a proper budget, rather than the complete $0 we've been working with all the time, combined with the love and passion every single Team Member had for the project, it would've been finished. It would've been polished. It would've been even better than the current Alpha version of the game we've released.
Question 5: Do you plan on releasing more Aftonbuilt content?
Answer: We indeed plan on releasing a bit more Aftonbuilt content, a public release of the models is coming
But that's not the only thing however. Our modeller due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback, has decided to work for free and finish a few of the models which were planned to be completed, but couldn't be in time due to the rejection from the Fanverse.
Once they're finished being worked on, they will be posted in one big bundle of models, free to use as long as credit is given.
Take note that this might take a few months. We will make a new post once the models are released.
Question 6: Will the game receive any further updates with more content?
Answer: The team is currently working on making one final patch, to fix some issues such as softlocks, as well as polishing up of some of the game mechanics. Other than that, there's no further updates planned.
Please take note that you'll need to redownload the entire game for the patch.
Question 7: The game doesn't launch when I try to launch it with the Game Jolt Desktop App, how can I fix this?
Answer: The Game Jolt App has an issue with compressed game files, and it's a problem on Game Jolt's side of things, so we're sadly unable to fix it.
However, you can still play Aftonbuilt if you download and extract it manually. Please continue on with the following steps:
Open up your Internet Browser. It can be Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, it doesn't really matter.
Proceed to the Download Page of Aftonbuilt on Game Jolt, or click this link to download the game. It's a big download, so please wait patiently.
Right click on the download previously .rar file (aftonbuilt-pre-alpha-demo.rar), and select the "Extract Here" option.
Once it is done extracting the game files, you should be able to find an .exe file which you can launch. Have fun!
Question 8: What are the minimum and recommended specs for Aftonbuilt?
Answer: As this is an alpha, we have not been able to do enough performance testing to conclude a minimum or recommended specs. As long as you have a mid-tier laptop or PC, you should be able to play the game.
Question 9: JeliLiam said on his Twitter that Scott Cawthon has signed something. If the game is cancelled, what did he mean by that?
Answer: The only thing we can say is this: We signed something allowing us to release all of the current Aftonbuilt content to the public, which we did here on Game Jolt.
Question 10: What's next for Jelatine?
Answer: As it stands right now, we currently plan on taking a break of a few months, while the rejection of Aftonbuilt has severely demotivated us, we don't plan on giving up on game development just yet. While FNaF is out of the question now, we plan on working on something old, but new.
That concludes the FAQ. We hope this will help. If you still have any questions, please make a new comment on the main Game Jolt Page for Aftonbuilt.
There's also one thing I'd like to remind everyone of. While we appreciate a ton of people trying to contact Scott in order to change his mind on Aftonbuilt, please do not harass him or attack him in any way. Same goes for the members of the FNaF Fanverse, they had absolutely no influence on Scott's decision.
