v1.10 is almost ready. There's still 1 more dungeon* left to work on for Chapter 5.5, as well as some cutscenes and dialogue that take place before, during, and after this area. I'll also need to create an introduction to Chapter 6 and allow a sort of free roam to areas you've already visited. Just like where v1.9 ended off at, this allows people to explore and do whatever while waiting for the next release instead of being awkwardly stuck in a story lock.
But just how ready is "almost ready"? That's what I'd like to show in better detail. Ever since the start, I've been relying on Devlogs to detail what's being worked on, changed and improved. However, like I mentioned in the January Progress Report, there's nothing left to show in the previews anymore aside from screenshots of new areas or cutscenes. This means I'd be spoiling a portion of the upcoming version every time I want to share an update about it.
This leads me to the idea of adding a "Progress Meter" that shows how close the next release is to being finished. The progress will be shown as a percentages and take into account things like Events (Dialogue, Cutscenes), Maps (New Areas, Updates to Existing Areas), Characters (Skillset Reworks, Skill Rebalancing), Features (currently, the Hunter's Guild is still empty!)
I'll be making this Progress Meter soon**, in the form of a pinned Devlog. Keep in mind that there will be some limitations to this. A new release won't always mean that there is a new Feature being added, or that another Skillset rework is happening. In addition, these percentages are estimates and will be highly subjective, but they will have proper basis. For example, if a new version has 4 new areas and 3 of those are already finished, the percentage for "Maps" would be around 70-80% depending on how big those areas are.
The meter will only be updated on a weekly (may be changed) basis, or as soon as the progress reaches 100%. The goal of this meter is to give people a better idea of how close the next version is to being finished, rather than be a live updater. I know how much it sucks to check on a game's page everyday to find out nothing has changed. This schedule helps set a better expectation of when you may want to check on the game's progress.
*A dungeon can mean any area that contains monsters. It could be a forest, cave or mountain, It could even be a...
runaway train taken over by bandits wink wink
