There’s no point sugarcoating things like I always do. As you know, Shrouded is scheduled for a 7th January release, after at least three previous delays. Well now, there’s going to be a fourth.
In a fight to get the build ready for each release date, a vast amount of quality content has had to be cut from the game. Content that takes far too much of the experience away. Ultimately? The game is now in a state where we simply can’t release it. It’s not up to the standard, or the intended experience, we want you guys to play. It’s lost it’s ‘mojo’, and we need to get it back.
Right now, this is where we’re at:
Chapter 1 | The first Chapter of the game is solid, polished and this is exactly the way I want Shrouded to be played. It lives up to the vision of the game perfectly.
Chapter 2 | Don’t mention the war. It’s a rushed, barely held together mess that doesn’t make any sense. It’s too forced, too sudden, and playing through it only conveys the same message.
Chapter 3 | This one is a bit of a mixed bag. Critical plot points are hit on the head beautifully, but the gameplay segments that tie them together are either rushed or cut out entirely. Essentially, it’s an interactive cutscene theater right now.
Sonic.EXE wasn’t exactly amazing on the ‘technical’ or ‘game design’ fronts. That is not what I want to define me. I can do better. And with Shrouded, I will do better. This is my first original IP, with original assets, story, code - the works. And because of this, I want Shrouded to be the best damned game I can put out. You guys deserve a groundbreaking 2D horror RPG that’s not an RPG Maker title for once (don’t get me wrong; there are incredible games made with that engine all the same! Just an awful lot of them!). One that stands out from the proverbial ‘crowd’ for all the right reasons.
So now, we’re committing ourselves to getting the game finished to the highest standard in line with my intended vision. And most importantly, we won’t be speaking about a release date until the game is all-but ready to go gold. That way, it’ll be guaranteed for you guys. It could be mere days from now, or it could be a week or two. But when the game is ready, we’ll let you know. As Hank Hill once said: “Do you want it done quick, or do you want it done right?”
Apologies, yet again. But this time? It’s definitely for the better.
Again.
