Skill Level

You’re probably wondering what this ominous title is about. (You’re probably also wondering why I’ve tried posting this twice and had to remove them. Apparently dragging additional images to the upload button instead posts it. I apologize for that spam.) Anyways, I have a new in-development mechanic to show off.

So in the original game, leveling was a pretty big deal for some characters. Leveling up provided the obvious increase in health, and for some brought some extra damage to abilities. Otherwise, there really wasn’t any apparent bonuses. It wouldn’t take long for a player to switch out earlier characters for ones that would obviously do more.

That’s one thing I want to do different to XL. I want a character, for an example Toy Freddy, to have the potential to become a powerful, 1-shotting beast as strong as (if not, stronger than) a level 1 Nightmare. So that’s where this new mechanic “Skill Level” will come into play.

(The following images will compare between level 1 and level 10. They’re also of an incomplete battle system.)

So it goes without saying that leveling up will still grant a character a higher amount of health. No point fixing something that isn’t broke.

But for this example, let’s use Mic Toss. For the sake of this example, it does a small amount of 4-7 damage at level 1.

With this Skill Level system in play, a level 10 Mic Toss can dish out 14-17 damage! (And that’s without any buffs/debuffs in play!)

Skill Level isn’t just gonna affect attacks either. It’ll effect every single skill in the game! For another example, let’s use Birthday.

At level 1, it’ll give you 20 seconds of buffs.

At level 10, this can increase even further.

I will obviously have to do a lot of fixes here and there to balance this (as well as fix any stats I might have improperly set), but hopefully this will open a whole new world of possibilites.

…and give Toy Freddy his time to shine.

‘Till next time!

UPDATE: Figured I’d also let you in on progress on the battle frame besides the stuff above. The starters’ (The Classics and Toys) animations have been added. I also made it that the new game button creates the save data for the starters.

Oh, and Toy Freddy can use Mic Throw.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Hook is now up and running for Foxy and Mangle. Got my sights set on finishing the buffs (Speed is technically the only one working right now) as well as work on either Cupcakes or Regen Song.

(Probably should mention this is in the Party 1 slot. Gonna work out the kinks for one before I copy/paste it onto the rest.)

Not quite the fix I've been talking about for the past few weeks, but it's at least progress.

Guess I did a terrible job advertising the items most crucial to this recent update.

(At least it's good to know people can find all of the discs without any extra hints on my part.)

Suppose it was about time that some of these skills got a little extra kick.

Creative drive has returned for a bit.

Huh, that's different.

Okay, the classic "Vent about it not working, then find a fix almost immediately" tactic has worked yet again. Still got some more stuff to fix, but it's something.

Thanks for putting up with this mini crisis of mine.

Well I've had a VERY productive night.
