Since RPG games have a story line behind them, especially the jRPG style games, it's only natural some nice quotes come from them. Now I may not quote them exactly as I have to do this on my memory, but I'll come as close as I can get.

A little spoiler alert is in order, as some quotes tell A LOT about the story line.

Ershin: "She says the dragon is under Nina's thumb. There's nothing to worry about!" (Breath of Fire IV)

This quote was well timed. When Fou-Lu goes haywire and destroys his own empire, a general asks Ryu, who is actually the other half of Fou-Lu forgiveness and begs him to spare the future generation. Nina tries to calm the general prompting Ershin to say this, in which "the dragon" refers to Ryu, implying Ryu would be in love with Nina, prompting Nina to blush and ask what Ershin means by that. Even though the general is dying he bursts into laughing as he knows exactly what Ershin meant.

Rapp: "Hey, if you're pulling a fast one we're eating roast beef tonight" (Grandia)

Rapp is a very unmannered boy who joins your group in the second half of the game. When a guy who looks like a bull says something Rapp doesn't want to hear he says the quote above, which could one way or another not only be seen as a major insult, but as a death threat, as well.

Manillo: "What? Raising prices because of the contest? What makes you think I'd do something, like that? Who do you think I am? Balio?" (Breath of Fire III)

Now, let's be frank. Balio *is* a villain. But it's not because the customer thinks the storekeeper is Balio. Who knows the Breath Of Fire franchise well, knows that the Manillo's are the Ferengi's of this franchise. Nuff said?

Jane: "Let's go, McDullen! I gotta blow of a cannon or something! I just need to get rid of this rage!" (Wild Arms)

Jane, aka "Calamity Jane" (which was the nickname of Martha Joane Connery in the real world) clearly shows signs of being in love with one of the playable characters... In fact that's Rudy. However when some secrets that Rudy wasn't aware of himself, are revealed showing a very nasty picture, Jane gets very upset and when she just can't take it anymore she leaves the room with this line.

Barret: "It's because of that $*#&$(#&$(* "pizza" that the people underneath or suffering" (Final Fantasy VII)

Yes, Final Fantasy VII is the most overrated game of all time, but yet, I can't deny it has a few very nice quotes, and who else but Barret could come up with my favorite one. Barret makes this remark about the city of Midgar where the game begins. The "pizza" he refers to is the giant disc above the city. On the disc the rich people and the Shinra employees live, and below are the just living in a kind of junkyard in poverty. It's because of this remark though that I've always referred to that giant disc as "pizza" myself.

Barkeeper: "Drink this beer and your magic powers will get stronger. <Hey, psst, Borgan wants us to say this, but it's actually the same watered down crap we always serve>"
Lemina: "Well, duh! If alcohol did amplify your magic powers, Ronfar would be the greatest sorcerer in the world."
Ronfar: "Oh, but beer is magical, blondie. For example, I drink a few mugs too much, and I might start to find you attractive" (Lunar: Eternal Blue)

Lunar has been a nice one for many good quotes. Lemina is from the magic city of Vane. Her nemesis, a man named Borgan did found Neo-Vane, and discriminates every non-magician and even forces them into slavery. This scenario happens in a bar in the area where the non-magic slaves live.

Colonel Kroitz: "Ah, they told me a ranger is now assisting the Nortis Army. No offense, but I was hoping for a REAL one!" (Grandia Xtreme)

Kroitz and main character Evann loathed each other with passion from the day they met, and Evann happens to be the ranger assisting the army, so maybe that explains this quote. Brilliantly acted (in the English dub) by Mark Hamill (Known for his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars).

Ronfar: "Of course. We always welcome a blonde beauty in our midst"
Jean: "Ronfar, I think we all know your intentions by now, and I'll keep it to two words: HANDS OFF!"
Ronfar: "Don't you worry, my emerald haired friend. I assure you my intentions are entirely pure."
Ruby: "Pure lust, you mean?"
(Lunar - Eternal Blue)

This is a part of the scenario when the girl Lemina joins, and yes the character Ronfar does express himself a bit as a womanizer. There's a dark tragedy behind this behavior that none of the other characters are aware of at the time, hence Jean's (a green-haired girl, hence Ronfar's reply) reaction and more of all Ruby's.

Brad: "Oh my, what would people say?" (Wild Arms 2)

Brad is a bit of the darkest character in Wild Arms 2, and here he makes a bit of a joke when he finds out that his current comrade, the 14-years old girl Lilka, is actually a runaway from home. This quote has a kind of a nice impact as you never expect him to come up with a joke like that.

Maya: "Oh, we women have been walking proudly for quite awhile now. You really need to date more!" (Wild Arms 3)

Janus Cascade is a minor antagonist in Wild Arms 3, and a man with a bit of a sexist nature, as shown as he constantly belittles the main protagonist Virginia, always calling her "princess" to make it clear he doesn't respect her, because she's a girl. When Janus is however confronted with Virginia's rival, Maya Schrödinger, who shows herself to be mentally stronger than Virginia and totally not afraid of Janus even daring to insult him, he asks her "When did women lose their modesty?" causing Maya to respond with the quote above. If you deem Maya's comment a bit sexist, then all I can say to that is that Maya gave Janus a taste of his own medicine.

Lemina: "Is place is a den of thieves, so keep your hands on your valuable. RONFAR GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF YOUR PANTS!"
Ronfar: "Hey, I was just following orders!"
Lemina: "Ronfar, you're disgusting!"
Jean: "And hilarious!"

I don't think I need to explain this one. If you don't understand this, you are too young for an explanation.

Auron: ""It's the right thing to do!" HAHAHAHAHA! Jecht used to say that a lot. And every time he said it, it meant trouble for Braska and me!" (Final Fantasy X)

Auron quotes Tidus in a rather sarcastic way bursting into laugh telling Tidus Jecht said it a lot too. Tidus hates Jecht (his father) with passion, however he's more like Jecht than he wants to admit, and this moment of irony, much to Auron's amusement, makes that painfully clear.

Vulcanus: "SERAPH LAMINGTON! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!"
Lamington: <very extremely calm> "It's always an emergency when you come here, Vulcanus."
(Disgaea)

The content of the quote is not what makes it so badass, but the extreme calmness of Seraph Lamington while he responds to the panicking tone of Vulcanus that does it.

Lunn: "I apologize for that pathetic lack of skill you had to endure watching!" (Lunar - Eternal blue)

And this is a martial arts master speaking about his apprentices. As you can see, he speaks very highly of them.

Mel: "I'm Mel the Alkirk, governor of Merribia. Since you're new here, I'll warn ya! If you cause any sort of trouble in *my* town I'll pop your tiny little heads off your twiggy little necks and mount them on me trophy wall.... WHAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!" (Lunar - Silver Story).

I guess this is how Mel welcomes his visitors. I really feel safe now...... NOT!

Flonne (to Etna): "Carpenters use your chest to check if a wooden plank is perfectly straight!" (Disgaea 4)

Really, this is a major insult to say to a woman, and hearing that from Flonne's mouth.... Yikes!

Kyle: "WOOOOOAAAAH! What a night! Kyle had himself another night of wine, women and song. Between you and me I think I had a little too much of the wine <burp> But the women didn't complain! <faints>" (Lunar - Silver Star Story).

No comment!

Jessica: "I think that "Dragonmaster" is a fake. In fact I think he's even a bigger sob than my former boy-friend" (Lunar - Silver Star Story).

Three guesses who that "former boy-friend" is.

Rei: ""I died the day I became a Guardian, eh?" Doesn't that just beat all? Are the Guardians nothing more but pawns to God?" (Breath of Fire III)

In order to understand this line (In which Rei sarcastically quotes Guardian Gaist) you must have played the game, but in the same time, I understand why he asks this question.

(NOTE! The "God" Rei refers to is NOT the same entity as the God people pray to in real-life).

Kinoc: "Well now, Auron. Who would execute a dear friend?"
Auron: "You would!"

Rikku: "I could be just me, but I think my pops kinda likes ya!"

This can be said by Rikku when you talk to her on board the Airship. And I must say... I think she's right.

Bleu: "I don't like her. She's worse than Nina!"
Nina: "Hey! I'm not THAT obnoxious!"
(Breath of Fire)

This is said in context of the princess of the city of Tunlan. The cat fight that follows is somehow kinda funny.

Yuna: "Gimme a 'Y'!"
Rikku: "Gimme an 'R'!"
Paine: "Gimme a break!"

Really I almost died laughing the first time that random quote sounded during the start of a battle.

Wakka: "I wish I were on a chocobo!"
Lulu: "WALK or I'll feed you to one!"

Wasn't that a bit harsh, Lulu?

Wakka: They're sure keeping us busy!
Auron: Better than freezing to death!
(Final Fantasy X)

Start of random encounter on Mt. Gagazet.

Quina: "If somebody gives you yummie-yummies, you give yummie-yummies back. Is good manners!" (Final Fantasy IX)

These are very wise words you would not expect from Quina. Although a metaphor to food (since all the Qu's do is eating) the true meaning behind the words is heavier than they sound. Quina says this to Zidane when he had just discovered he is an alien with the mission to murder everybody, and he doesn't take it well. However, until the point he does this discovery, he has been helping people during the entire course of the story line without an apparant reason. His life motto is after all "You don't need a reason to help somebody". However, now that he needs help himself and those people he helped before are now offering him help in return he arrogantly refuses it and even insults them all, this until the moment Dagger manages to bring him back to his senses. This is also when Quina utters these words, and they are so true. Zidane has been others selflessly, that it's only natural they want to return the favor.

Scotia: "You will NOT make me wait again!" (Lands of Lore - The Throne of Chaos)

Well, since she addresses a little imp she just disintegrated, I guess it's clear he will not make her wait again indeed.

Kyle: "What! I can't see! I always thought it was a fairytale that it makes you blind!"
Nall: "What are you talking about, Kyle? They simply turned off the lights!"
Jessica: "Really Nall, you DON'T want to know what Kyle is talking about!"

Nope, nope, nope! NOT gonna explain what Kyle is talking about!

Ryudo: "I'm sorry, but that's not vague enough! Could you please be any less specific?" (Grandia II)

Ryudo says this to Pope Zera when he receives his instructions for the mission to recover a holy sword called "The Granasaber". When Ryudo asks where to look for the sword, the pope says that the location is unknown but that the holy book only states it can be found "in the region of darkness", prompting Ryudo to make the sarcastic quote above.

Geron: "Begone! Your intrusions annoy me and threaten my negotiations here!" (Lands of Lore - The Trone of Chaos)

I really HATE that guy, and this quote illustrates why.

Teepo: "There! We worked, right! Now you won't complain if we steal, right?" (Breath of Fire III)

I guess Teepo didn't really understand the lesson Bunyan was trying to teach him.

Liz: "Don't worry, Ard! I'm a gentleman and as a gentleman I know that "no" means "no"!"
Ard: Aaard?
(Wild Arms 2)

This one comes together with this one!

Liz: "I propose a word torture. I have too many phrases ready that ought to be censored!"

Songi: "Thank you of always thinking about me, members of the moron brigade!" (Legend of Legaia)

Really, that guy cannot say one sentence without being insulting, but this was one of the funniest!

Slayzer: "Oh, what a pretty picture! A brave young warrior and a damsel in distress!" (The Granstream Saga)

Geez... Do I sense a bit of sarcasm here?

Dolphin: "Oi! What's got your goat laying into me like that? No worries mate, but it's your lookout! I was just minding the sheilas but if you want to take it outside! What's with the lighthouse anyway? Bloody nuisance, can't get a wink with it shining away all night! Get rid o' it, apples it ain't, or else we might have a bit o' a barney happenin'!"

And this monologue is followed up with the note "For those players who do not speak Australian, we've provided an English translation of the previous scene." And then you are asked to replay the same monologue but then with a kind of wording more in more common English. Now this is a translation from Japanese, and the accent in which the Dolphin speaks is Kansai, which is apparently a kind of dialect only spoken in the Kansai region. In the German translation of the game this was replaced with the dialect spoken in the German state of Hesse, and then most of all its northern region.

Wendicka: "What! Me? Married to him? I'd rather marry an Astrilopup with scabies!"
Yirl: "That can be arranged"

These lines are a bit of a parody to Leia and Han in Star Wars. Leia will eventually claim she'd rather marry a Wookie prompting Han to say he can arrange that. Of course, when you saw the entire franchise you know Han and Leia would eventually become lovers. And yes, I can spoil that the same will happen to Wendicka and Yirl.

Merya: "Bad girl! Bad girl! You shouldn't lie to Dernor! You can better lie DOWN to him!" (The Secrets of Dyrt)

I hope I don't have to explain what Merya means by that!

Feenalaria: "Oh, my loving and caring assho-- I mean brother comes to check how well I'm doing?" (The Fairy Tale)

Although, she only say this during a flashback scene you can only see in the New Game +. Something that went a bit bugged in the WIndows version, however I hope I can fix that in a later remake.
