Hey everyone!
As some of you already know, I decided to cancel development on Internal Demons. I wanted to take a moment to explain why.
So, why cancel it? Yep, another fan game down the drain. I’ve already heard that from a few people. When I started working on it, I knew there was a small chance I’d actually finish it. Still, I learned a lot, met some awesome people, and had fun. But there were some major issues that made it hard to keep things moving forward.
For starters, the team was small—like 4-ish people working on it most of the time. And the biggest issue? I’m not a spriter or an artist. My main thing is music. I know how to program, but honestly, game dev isn’t where my passion lies. The only parts I really got into were designing the systems, like battles and mechanics. But the more I worked on it, the more I realized DRID wasn’t the project I really wanted to do.
Here’s the thing: DRID was just a playground for me and my co-director, Celpher. We wanted to experiment and have fun—try out ideas for story, music, characters, and all that. But most of those ideas? Not super game-related. Plus, for how unique our ideas were, it barely felt like a fan game anymore. And for the amount of time we were putting in, it didn’t make sense to keep calling it one.
There’s also the reality check: life. Bills, rent, college—it adds up. Spending all that energy on a fan game just wasn’t justifiable anymore. So, yeah, we canceled development on DRID.
But here’s the thing—this isn’t the end of the story. Like I said, DRID wasn’t the project I really wanted to make. Neither did Celpher, honestly. If you’re still reading, this next part is where it gets exciting.
Before DRID, I was working on another project called Gamewhere (temporary name). We took a break from it to mess around with DRID and try new ideas, but now we’re back to working on Gamewhere.
Here’s the pitch: Gamewhere isn’t a game—it’s an animated show. The concept? Humans are born with monophonic magic, meaning they each have one type of power, like fire or ice. The story? Dark, gritty, and focused on justice. That’s all I’ll say for now since it’s still early in development, but I’ve been building this concept for the last three years, and I’m really excited to bring it to life.
The plan is to create it in 3D with Unreal Engine, aiming for an anime-style look. Right now, we have no funding, but it’s an original concept I’m passionate about.
If you’re interested in following the journey, feel free to check out my Tumblr I don’t plan to make a GameJolt page for Gamewhere (it’s not a game, after all), but if enough people want one, I’ll consider it.
And hey, if you’d like to join the development team for Gamewhere, hit me up! My Discord is @ Directal.
For those who stuck around and supported my gamejolt, youtube, and other platforms, thank you all so much. I can't wait to show everyone what I had been working on in the future. Till next time friends!
