Update ver. 5-25-2024

Ladies and gentlemen, I have been working my backside off since I announced my little hiatus and had my little meltdown. And I come back with excellent news.

The pic above? MARIO'S BACK THROW. That's right. What you're seeing above is Mario is throwing Test Dummy Mario backward. I have all four throw animations (back, forward, up and down) working as well as grabbing (Catch) and pulling the grabbed opponent toward you (catchpull). Dash grabs are also possible, and it should be very simple to have pivot grabs done too. I also have the Pummel animation working but so far it does no damage or sound. Also I don't have actual THROWING up and running yet, so your opponent stays stuck to your Throw bone (collider) for now after doing a throw animation. I have a basic idea how to make this work. And this also works with shield grabs!

I was hammering away at this, cussing at my code, using Physics.Boxcast. Turns out OverlapBox works way better. I just gotta make a few fixes (like the position when grabbed (capturewait) and turning your opponent around if you grab them from behind, and this should be ready to go, almost!

What's best? Footstool jumps AND GRABS work off the same collider, attached to the Hip bone. Ottotto is also much more consistent (teetering over the ledge unbalanced)

No progress yet on items, but that's the next big undertaking on my list!
