I wish I uploaded it to Gamejolt when I first released the game back in 2019. I might have continued working on it. But when I released it on itch.io no one really cared and it got buried, so I moved on to other things. What could have been, had I kept working on it?
I had plans to make a campaign for it, I had even started to work on replicating the kind of AI that made Halo's Covenant into what I believe to be the best shooter enemies of all time. I started planning out unique mechanics for each level, much like Titanfall 2's campaign had done. I also wanted to make a firefight game mode as a testbed for the new AI, but I never even got around to that.
I think if I kept working on it I would have scrapped some of the content. The fake multiplayer thing in retrospect wasn't the best way to do a Halo clone. The grappling hook was also really buggy and not well implemented anyway. When I first came up with the idea for the game I thought I would implement multiplayer if the game was popular enough, now, I don't think I ever would have done that. I would pivot to what I'm much more comfortable and interested in doing, single player.
Unfortunately, Apotheosis will likely never get an update. In 2020 I had a big hard drive corruption that destroyed most of my old game projects. I lost the source code for Apotheosis, as well as a build that contained a fun little easter egg, an Infinity Gauntlet that would snap the other team out of existence, with pretty convincing SFX and VFX to go with it. (Infinity War came out around that time and the hype was strong)
But those ideas I had for a campaign still live on in my current project, Blob Person. I wish I had some good screenshots of the Apotheosis version, it's cool to see how even though the two games were made about a year apart and have completely different styles, the first level still looks remarkably similar to Blob Person's beach level. The plan I had for the campaign was very similar in concept to Blob Person's, it's a journey that leads you through several different biomes, up a mountain and eventually climb a huge tower that you could see get closer in each level. I really liked the idea that you could see your goal for the entire game.
Anyway, idk what the point of this post is, probably just to procrastinate.

One hot night in 2018 I laid awake as I realized I had all the art assets I need to make a Halo clone game. That idea possessed me, and 4 months of programming later, I had finished Apotheosis. It was released on itch-io in 2019. now I'm putting it here!
Nice
Updating the jungle level with some new obstacles, the new Target Switch being one so Blob Person doesn't meet their end down these slippery mossy slides.
in 2019 Inverted Games made Lazer Lynx for the Epic Mega Jam, and it got an honourable mention from Epic Games! It's a puzzle game about getting tied to a chair by your co-workers at the space station, and only having a laser pointer and a cat to save you
