Blockmap 2 is a heavily modified and fine tuned version of my first procedural map mod for Doom 2 called Blockmap. This was called that because it assembled maps from square blocks that were randomly height changed via ACS to produce randomized layouts and ACS code changed textures and spawned in enemies...

This new version features several things that made Zrdoom and Zrdoom Enhanced do well, including non 90 degree angled walls (something blockmap lacked), 3d floors, slopes, point lighting, configurable map theme, configurable map difficulty, configurable map size and more...

To run it extract blockmap2.exe to a new folder (C:\bmap2) and put your doom 2 iwad in that folder and run blockmap.bat to play...

In the first room the right wall has 2 switches. Press the left one to select difficulty. Press it several times to cycle through difficulties. Right of it is a switch to cycle through map length. To the right of that is a switch to cycle through map themes, from tech bases, to urban maps and hell maps... This last switch requires you to make a map (switch on left wall) and exit via the nearby exit to make it take effect when the map reloads. Any exit to the map will re-enter the same map and you can make another with a different layout, texture theme and height variation...

Difficulty can be set from easy to ultra hard.... Easy is like doom 2 map04 difficulty. Medium is around doom 2 map10 difficulty. Hard is around plutonia diffficulty. Others are harder...

New features since blockmap v1 that were added into blockmap v2 are nukage pits, 3d florors, better point lighting, and bug fixes... A few missing textures remain but they are rarely seen....

Just had tdbots 3.0 run through a map where it spent 90% of the time running in circles looking for where to go.... It took 11:28 to beat the map even though it should have only taken 4 or so.... #doom #procedural

What I did with the tdbots blockmap patch is:
1 - make all exits wire triggers.
2 - bait them with soulspheres
3 - disable all teleports but one far away and turn that into an exit. Bait that too... that makes the bot find it most of the time.. #doom

Now testing a blockmap patch for tdbots v3.0.... So far the bot handles some maps fine but others it fails on because it has a map that is unsolvable or a map it screws up on a lot.... I had one map mess up horribly. It was even beatable... #doom

Blockmap 2 screenshots of the procedural 3d floors... These are done with gzdoom 3d floor specials... They make the mod really cool looking... It adds a lot to see lifts rising up to 3d floors you can walk above rooms on... #doom #procedural

I felt like blockmap was really the best procedural map mod I made... It became a bit better once it became zrdoom but zrdoom became weird and changed it's vibe too much... Blockmap had mazey layouts, and features a lot of new stuff.. #doom #procedural
