I liked the idea of the game, i think you already though of this but, you should limit the cash you get in fights or something based on the power level or something to avoid infinite grinding, what i mean is, i got 1 upgrade on each defense, and that makes me immortal on the first guy you can find = infinite cash, keep working on it, i think it was fun to play
Took some time to get the basic of this game
I think you're trying to set some constraints to prevent infinite grinding by forcing player to use restore item for training. Or to be exact to restore health since training & getting hit 'costs' HP
Feels crude so I can't comment more
Edit - Marking this as finished. This is the proof of concept build of the game, I will re-release this title once it goes into alpha.
Please read the full description to understand how the game works.
Hello Everyone, my name is Scott and I am the developer of Fight/Train. This is my first game, and the version you are playing right now is v1.1.0, the first update. The goal of the game is to get stronger, every opponent you fight is a great deal stronger than your last opponent. Right now there are fighting Leagues, though currently there is only one league, it should provide quite a bit of play time. As you fight people in leagues you get cash, that cash is used to buy restore items, and you have to use a restore item every time you train a stat. The game is a bit on the grindy side right now, but in the future I plan on making combat more interesting, and I plan on adding more leagues, so I can get you moving along at a brisk pace.
In Fight/Train there are a good deal of stats. Here is what they are, please ready the description.
Stamina - Stamina determines how much health you have. It's pretty basic, more stamina = more health. This is a stat that you do not want to forget.
Combat Skills (Combat skills right now are basic skills you train to deal more damage, The higher a combat skill is, the higher damage you deal. In the future combat skills will have special attacks. You will be able to pay cash to get a special attack, and there will skill requirements to buy special attacks):
Punch
Kick
Energy Attack (often just printed as Energy to save space).
Weapon Attack
Resistances (Resistances are pretty much how they sound. Right now there are four of them, and they mirror the combat skills.):
Toughness (Resistant to punch, i.e (Punch is 1000, enemy toughness is 500, if you use punch you will deal 500 damage.)
Thick Skull (Resistant to kick)
Energy Resist (Resistant to Energy)
Iron Body (Resistant to Weapon Attack)
Powerlevel - Power Level is the calculation of all 9 stats (not including health). So if every stat is 10, you would have a power level of 90.
Training Experience = This stat determines how much you gain every time you train. Every time you train it goes up by 1. So TE was 5, it would punch + training experience. In this version this stat is displayed.
There is now an exit Battle Button, so if you are over your head you can simply go back and train some more.
Restore items go up in price every time you buy one.
You can only train in the overworld, to go there press t.
To fight press f and go to League 1, other leagues will be added in future updates.
There is no sound in the game yet, however that is planned for the next update v1.2.0.
The graphics are very bad, but they will be updated in the near future to make it look a little better. They will be updated before another league is added, so v1.3.0 maybe?
For a list of controls press c.
To move (w,s,a,d)
The game auto saves every time you switch scenes, however you can manually save and load by pressing escape, you can also find the escape button in this menu. It's a good idea to save before you quit the game.
If you want/need to start over, go to AppData/Locallow/Lucky Duck Games, just delete the file and restart the game.
Added a stuck button onto the save/load/exit menu (press escape). If you are stuck just press that button.
If you have suggestions on how to improve the game please leave a comment. Please keep in mind that this is my first game, and this is a VERY early build of the game.
I recommend playing the game at 1024x768 in windowed mode.
Stratagies:
I am going to give you some early game stratagies that will prevent you from having to delete the load game.
You start with 3 restore points, you can train 3 times. I recommend training an attack and putting the next two into stamina, remember what I said health is important.
When you are fighting someone, be gentle with the buy button. Typically I will buy the restore item when I need it. You will need one when you reach 0 or - health. The reason for this, is you want to keep the cost of buying a restore item as low as possible, you want to stockpile your money, that way you can buy more restore items at less of a price.
Always keep 1 restore item handy. I call this an emergancy ration. In case you are out of money and have no restore items. It happened to me once on pure accident. So I figure its just safe to have one on you at all times. If you don't have any on you go fight someone weak to get some cash to buy a couple.
Train more than one skill for attack. It's always good to be prepared for a resistance to be particularily high. In mid game I had 3, but in late game I focused more on 2.
