Customize profile

After creating an account, you’re given your very own profile to customize to your liking. You can access your profile by clicking on the profile icon (an avatar of a gray ninja by default), and then clicking on “Profile.” Once there, you may then choose to change the look of your profile by clicking on the “Edit Profile” button. Let’s discuss some of the options now available to you.

Avatar (Profile Picture)

To change your avatar, click on it and then choose an image to upload from your device. Your chosen image must be a PNG or JPG. The recommended size for an avatar is 1000×1000 pixels.

Avatar Frames

Stand out from the crowd by decorating your profile picture with a fun frame. You can unlock avatar frames from completing quests that award specific avatar frames as a prize. Some avatar frames will only be available temporarily while others can be kept and used permanently.

Page Header

Headers are the big, banner-like, rectangular images that adorn the tops of game pages. They are optional but highly, highly recommended. Headers make for a splendid looking page.

You might want to experiment with different images to see what looks good as a header. Screenshots often turn out well, but some of the nicest looking headers are created for the purpose.

What are the header requirements and guidelines?

Here are the requirements and recommendations for header images:

  • Use a rectangular image.

  • The image format can be PNG or JPG. PNGs will result in the highest quality.

  • Your original image should be as large as possible.

  • The minimum width is 900px. The maximum width is 5120px. - The minimum ratio (width ÷ height) is 2.7 and the maximum ratio is 6.3. The recommended ratio is 4. - We recommend making the height 25% of the width. - To find a good height, divide the width by 4 (it can actually be any number between 2.7 and 6.3). - If you have the height and need a good width, just multiply the height by 4 (or anything between 2.7 and 6.3).

  • Make sure anything important is located near the center of the image. This will ensure your header looks its best on mobile devices.

  • Only use an original image created or captured by you or your team.

Color theme

Setting a theme will change the color of links and some other visual elements on Game Jolt. When other people view your profile, they'll also see your chosen theme. You can choose from some preset color themes, or select your own custom color.

Username

You may change your username, but be aware that doing so will also change your public profile URL, so any links to your old profile URL will not work until updated to the new URL. Usernames are also used for tagging people in posts and comments on Game Jolt, which creates a link to their profiles and also sends the tagged individual a notification if they have such options turned on (more on this below).

Display name

Your display name is an optional personal identifier. Unlike usernames, display names can contain spaces and special characters, so get creative!

Pronouns

If desired, you can select pronouns so others will know how to refer to you in conversation. Selecting multiple pronouns is possible, and they will display in the order you select them.

Profile bio

Tell people a little bit about yourself. Are you a gamer? An artist? A streamer? A sentient mineral? This is also a great place to include any social links.

Website

If you have your own website, shop, or a dominant presence somewhere else online, add the URL to this text field.

Allow shouts

Having this turned on will allow people to leave messages and/or images on your profile. If you decide to turn this off, any shouts already existing on your profile will be hidden.

Allow friend requests

With this turned on, people can send you friend requests. Friends can use private chat. Even with this feature turned off, you will still be able to send friend requests to others.

Show your liked posts

Any posts you like will be publicly visible if this feature is enabled.

Who can mention you

You can specify who is able to mention you by username. "People you know" are users you follow or are friends with
