Adding 3 slightly different Difficulty options

(I'll go a bit more in-depth in the article)

I've managed to fix the issues my new laptop was having with GB Studio (it was Windows Defender) and so I've been working on updating the menu a bit to add these 3 difficulties.

They won't actually differ much story wise, but they do offer some semblance of a challenge

normal_splash.png

The first one is Normal. The number of the day you're on is the number of hearts you have, and each heart can take 4 hp of damage (like TLoZ games)

So basically:

Day 1 - 1 Heart, 4 hp

Day 2 - 2 Hearts, 8 hp

Day 3 - 3 Hearts, 12 hp

Day 4 - 4 Hearts, 16 hp

Day 5 - 5 Hearts, 20 hp

And at the start of every battle you fully heal any health lost

You also get to start battles again if you died and the game saves at the end of every day.

(unless you're using the "no save" file)

hard_splash.png

The second difficulty is Hard. You earn half a heart per day instead of a full one.

So:

Day 1 - 0.5 Heart, 2 hp

Day 2 - 1 Hearts, 4 hp

Day 3 - 1.5 Hearts, 6 hp

Day 4 - 2 Hearts, 8 hp

Day 5 - 2.5 Hearts, 10 hp

Like in Normal mode you can fully heal, but instead of it being after every battle it's at the start of the next day.

You also get to start battles again like normal mode, however since hard and N̵͍̔i̸͔̎g̴̻͋h̷̼͝t̵̪̔m̶̟̋a̷̘̾ŗ̶̑e̶̮̅ are exclusive to the "no save" file, you cannot save your progress.

nightmare_splash.png

And finally there's N̵͍̔i̸͔̎g̴̻͋h̷̼͝t̵̪̔m̶̟̋a̷̘̾ŗ̶̑e̶̮̅ mode. This will be the hardest mode in the game and as it's title suggests, very likely to be a nightmare to complete.

Day 1 - 1 Hearts, 4 hp

Day 2 -> Day 5 - 1 Hearts, ? hp

And in nightmare mode, your singular heart will never regenerate health when starting a new day.

Basically, you have 4hp to beat the whole game. And if you die, you're booted back to the title screen instead of getting to retry whatever fight you died to, and like stated before no saving to try get around the title screen reboot, either.

Did more sprite work and a bit of writing today, but the big achievement was coding this intro segment and the GB/SGB/GBA detection. There's a few unique messages like this you have a small chance of seeing on opening the game.

(Any lag is because of OBS)

Finally got around to making the actual protagonist lol.

This is Ive! The (almost) blank slate you'll use to interact with the world

Doesn't he just look as cute as a button with his dead, empty eyes staring into your soul~? ❤️

Coded and made music for a menu and file select (inspired by Kirby's Dreamland 2)

I also have 3/6 of the main characters sprite sheets done ( until I need new ones for specific stuff I'll write later)

Finally I have 4/6 of the first day hang-outs written.

Happy #WIPWednesday! Are you working on a game? Making some art? Practicing a song? Something else? Tell us in the comments!

The best part of the whole game:

E L E V A T O R

or L I F T if that's how you say it

(audio delay is because of OBS sorry)

The Knightling launches on August 28! Wishlist it now so you don't miss out: https://bit.ly/KnightlingSteam

To celebrate the game's impending release, we've added The Knightling Pack and The Knightling Community Pack back to the Shop!

Got a decent bit of dialogue done today...

Until GB Studio decided to crash when I tried to do one more build just before I saved to take a break T_T

On the plus side though... HUB Lily! :)

It only took about an hour, so I didn't lose too much progress...

This is the canonical reason Ive moved schools btw.

He could never get that third question right...

Welcome to Meowosville, home to the catfolk, with houses made of cardboard boxes and feline-looking towers! 🐱

Catfolk love to fish, and love the company of the nearby dogs and crabs! 🐶 To the north, the buff cats claimed a cave as a gym for themselves. 💪
