Oooo boy, this took weeks.
FUNKY SYMBOLISM (amongst other things)
If you'll bear with me, there's some symbolism in this, and I reckon this is the most complicated thing I've drawn, so, naturally, I want to talk about it. It ain't perfect, and I am so proud of it. >:)
First of all -- it is based off that old FNaF 2 poster; I thought it would be neat to try that style, but with the og animatronics and the security breach ones! It was tricky: aside from Glamrock Chica, I've never actually drawn the others (I am ashamed, slightly, yes).
There were some odd moments.
This was the first attempt at Monty -- not too bad, but still pretty goofy... then there was Roxy.
SO ANGRY WOAH
Now into the slightly more subtle stuff! Slightly. This wasn't initially my intention, but I ended up drawing the original gang completely freehand, while the SB guys are entirely symmetrical:
Additionally, the colours of the SB gang are more saturated. The intended effect of this all was to convey the newness of SB (though it has been a while, already), and the old spookiness of the og animatronics.
One more tidbit here:
I wanted a way to add a touch of paranormality to these guys, so I went in with a black airbrush around their eyes before adding the pupils. I quite like this effect, and I'll probably try it again in the future!
THROWBACKS
As someone who's been drawing these guys since they were ten, and has been heavily involved in the FNaF art community, no doubt I'm making references. There were two big ones:
The swoopy eye light thing. I had to. This was everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE. There was too much nostalgia not to. Come on.
2. The artstyle itself. I kid you not, this is how I used to draw them, especially Chica, when I first got into FNaF and the only tools at my disposal was MSPaint, a trackpad, and intense determination. After quite a few years of work, my style has evolved significantly and I've developed stronger linework, composition and colour skills, so I wanted to honour those first few times I tried digital art. Most of it was a disaster, but hey -- how else do you grow a skill?
*A note -- this is not 'true' pixel art, although the majority of it is pixel. Airbrushes and blurs were used liberally for added vibes! :D
SOME COOL THINGS
This was the first time I trialed the composition all together!
I also had some fun with the liquify tools
A BIT OF REFLECTION
FNaF has been an aggressively huge part of my life ever since I was 10. From the games themselves, to the novels, fan music, fan comics and insane artwork, it's all propelled me in so many ways. I've become friends with so many people because our first real connection was FNaF -- then undertale, or star wars, minecraft, or what have you. It's safe to say FNaF is the reason I've kept drawing all these years.
So - thank you, to Scott, to the franchise and everyone involved in it, to the community, to the musicians, the artists, to everyone. Thank you.
And thank you to listening to my TED talk :D
Have a great day!
