The more you play, the more crowns you earn, which can be used to purchase customisations you can flex on your friends in multiplayer.
This is a generator, it converts gold into electricity. They are the source of energy for your entire operation.

Gold is then used to upgrade and purchase more units for your base.

This actually took 2 attempts, you can see the first attempt in gif 2. I rejected it because it was too distracting. It makes lines in your peripheral vision.
