THE WITCHING WELL

It was Halloween night, the moon shone bright and festive children were roaming the streets in search for treats. Three children in particular were having a blast, dressed up as a witch, ghost and pumpkin respectively. Their treat baskets were almost filled to the brim, no wonder things went well.

As they've gathered enough candy to last until next morning, they decided to find a spot to enjoy their sweets, preferably a spooky one to set the mood. The nearby forest was off limits, but that didn't stop them from going through a hole in the fence.

They looked left and right for a good place to settle but most of the forest was overgrown, until they found an old well in the middle of it.

It was perfect. The moon was visible, nobody was around, there even were mushrooms circling the well. The children sat down and starting digging in their baskets for the finest sweets.

...but before they knew it, the night got darker. Their darkest night was about to begin.

A faint laugh could be heard, but none of the kids were laughing... is it coming from the well? The well then started to rise up, tearing up the ground underneath them. Its cackling became louder as it took a humanoid form... of a witch, if you will.

"What do we have here, I ponder? A ghost, pumpkin and fellow witch on this night of wonder!"

"W-what are you?!" The witch kid shakingly answered with a question.

"Oh goodness, how rude of me! I'm the Witching Well, you see!"

"Did you bring me an offering? How delightful, how exciting!"

"I'm sorry." The ghost kid replied, "but this is our candy to eat."

"Well then, if you're so smart... how are you gonna eat it without a heart?"

All eyes turn to the ghost kid, who suddenly turned into an actual ghost!

"Hey!" The pumpkin kid shouted, "Turn him back to normal!"

"Oh, should I? If you weren't a veggie you could probably tell me why."

And before they noticed, the pumpkin kid turned into an actual pumpkin!

"W-why are you doing this?!" The witch kid cried.

"If you answer my riddle within the night, turning them back to normal I might! My absolute favorite sweet, that is all I really need!"

...unfortunately this is as far as the story goes. Feel free to imagine how it would end ;3
