This is the big fat ginormous thing i've been working on for almost two years at this point, and now it's finally time when enough has been completed that i can actually start posting and sharing things about it.
Skygrave is an upcoming gothic horror game. You must survive in a hellish world where humans are far from being the top predators and rulers of the world, and instead are little more than ants to the immortal Vampires and monsters that prey upon all living things.
In the world of Skygrave humans have been living for many centuries in what they call the "Subjugation", the era that began when Vampires plunged the world into eternal night and killed most of life on earth, keeping only a fraction of things alive as their livestock. The Earth is a cold, barren and horrible landscape, only ever so barely lit by the red glare of the Skygrave, the new center of the universe after the Sun was killed by dark magic. Absolutely nothing can survive on the surface of the planet except for the undying and omnipotent Vampires who have only become ever more powerful and insane in their centuries of supremacy over the world.
Some humans managed to escape the horrible vampiric cruelty in the deep and endless cave systems beneath the earth…
But the caves are barely a salvation of any sort.
Cold and empty, suffocating and claustrophobic, filled with ancient horrors that have thrived and crawled for eons upon eons long before humanity ever was born…
The cavern is only preferable to the surface because down there death is at least not immediate. But every "free-human" knows well that bloody death is a promise in the cave, either at the hands of plague, or more likely, at the hands of a monster.
To be a human in Skygrave is, to put into simple terms: Not a very fun experience.
The Subjugation has essentially turned the world into literal hell on earth.
Skygrave will be story and lore focused, it will also be semi-open-world as you traverse the expansive caves and other forlorn locations filled with dark secrets. Sometimes you may be rewarded for exploring and being perceptive, other times, you may just put yourself in greater danger for being curious.
There's gonna be some pretty difficult puzzles that i don’t want to spoil too much about, but all i’ll say is that the later ones may take a bit to figure out (they will still be completely fair and not like some stupid bullshit that doesn’t make sense though). And oh yes, there most definitely will be combat…
i can't really say what percentage of the game is already done, but my plan is to have a demo out sometime in the middle of next year, and then finally release the full thing later on in 2022.
If any of this sounds interesting to you, well stick around cause i’m starting a devlog from now on to update you guys on the progress and the stuff that’s currently being worked on. This post has barely scratched the surface of anything.
