LOTS OF NEW PROGRESS FOR KOPPY KOPSOCKS

- Completelly revamped the sprint controls that have been bugging me (literally) for many months

- New sound effects using FX hammer!

- New remastered music! (Composer: ENAHU64)

- And other features in the works...

The changes

The changes are not really "visual" for now, the majority of the changes were on the game's code, which made a lot of impact.

I also made a bunch of experiments and features that I ended up scrapping, one of those included collectibles on the level (like coins), but couldn't make it since the plugin didn't work and the vanilla workaround was very unpractical (and barelly worked right).

Also tried to migrate to a newer version of the engine (GB Studio 4.2.0) that introduced MANY new features that would be really beneficial to the game, but it broke the whole game (unsuprisingly) so now I have to stick to this outdated version I've been using since the start.

A few days ago I was with a friend and I made them play the game, and I learnt about many flaws in the game (they got really frustrated at the current sprint controls... i got frustrated by not being able to fix those at the time!), seeing the person's real time reactions is far more effective than online feedback (for me at least) so now I got a clearer insight of what to fix.

Sound effects

They are not very clear on the video since the music track channels kinda overwrite the sound effects (that's really how the gameboy system works and I can't really fix that unfortunally), but I recently finally figured out how to use FX HAMMER (I tried to use it last year but it was really confusing, and still is)

You are looking at FX HAMMER's interface. No mouse controls, you control everything with the D-pad and the other buttons. I'm as confused as you might be lol

Planned features

Now that I got the sprint controls working right, I can finally properly move on to gameplay stuff!

  • I will change the current levels in the game, some might just get some more visual elements while others might get entirelly revamped as well. (Note that the final Demo will only include 2-3 playable levels.)

  • Cutscenes! I already started working on the intro cutscene a while ago, I only need to finish some stuff and then maybe also work on the other mini cutscenes for each level (The Demo will include some part of the story)

  • And more...

The game's main features and stuff are almost completed, after the Demo is finished I'll move on to working on the full game and later release it once it's ready.

Next up

So I was adding a new screenshot to my game's game page (on the "Design" tab), I deleted one image since I didn't need it there anymore and then after I saved it ALL the images in the page got scrambled or something!

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

VERTICAL LEVEL!

Here you have to go up instead to the sides to complete the level (the jump mechanics work much better in this level format!)

This might or might not replace the existing horizontal (normal) levels.

Medals... Stars... All over the place!

Added star collectibles! You can collect 3 of them in each level. (Also updated many screens to include stats on your medals and stars.)

Art that I made for my game during the #Devruary challenge!

I didn't got to post these directly to the game page, so here's a post with most of them there!

Mae Borowski is the main character of Night in the Woods! It's an adventure game that tells the story of her return to her hometown of Possum Springs. She was confirmed as canonically pan in a social media post by the game's creator Scott Benson.

Wanted to try adding a small feature, it ended up turning into a death battle against bugs that kept getting more bugged after every fix (it was like cutting hydra heads)

The game also crashed a few times... but it's stable now!

The MANY changes I did

Development flow is at max speed! I'm confident that I'm finally getting closer at properly finishing working on the Demo!

- Remaking the 1st level (W.I.P)

- Repurposed medals to be the end goal for levels

- End level screen (W.I.P)

- And more! Read

To celebrate the game's impending release, we've added The Knightling Pack and The Knightling Community Pack back to the Shop!

Remaking the first level! (Tile set not final)

Some of the feedback I got previously pointed out that the current level design felt too boring/empty, so now I'll remake the existing levels and change some aspects of the overall level design of the game.
