These days I'm making a lot of effort to priorize the characters' studio for the videogame.
As you may or may not know, characters are one fo the essential parts in a videogame. If the character caracterization isn't convincing for the developer of the game, stay assured that they won't be okay for the audience, either.
And, since they didn't convince me for some details (like the average mood of the character's outfit), I started making moodboards for every one of them. I would then draw the full figure and put it in the moodboard, like that one in the image.
The first one it's about Ni, that you may recognize for the liliac hair and yellow eyes.
It's a standard full body stance, as you may notice I did put more effort on the outfit rather that in the pose, because the outift of a character can say a lot even with a basic stance.
But don't worry! Even if it scares me a little bit, after this big work of characterization for all of my characters, I'll buy a white notebook and start drawing all sort of different poses. I'll exercise, I promise! And I'll post them as well, so you may see the character development in progress.
I personally feel in a turning point, because I'm more focused and I'm unsutck for the character problem. You know, I was afraid I couldn't make a well made work because of how it felt managing the character development, like I said before.
But now what I need to do is becoming more clear after every moodbard I'm making! I understand the flaws of the characterization for said character and I'm adjusting it to be more coherent with the game story, or I'm changing the story a little bit if I feel I didn't give that character some significance.
It may sound weird, so let's explain it with an example:
For Ni, it felt like I made up the character just for the cuteness. But Ni has an important role in the story, so I fixed the matter by just giving him a new vibe, so he would be more recognizable.
I studied the vibe I wanted to make up for him by searching some pics on Pinterest (I do not own them, except from Ni's drawing, which I made up from scratch) and then put them on a document in Photoshop, also adding flavor with my own font and some shading and level masks (I didn't know I could remember how to do it haha... I studied graphic design in high schools and didn't know it would become useful irl...).
Least and lastly, I drew Ni in a full body stand pose and colored him digitally (I may have forgotten some details on the baseball hat but wathever... I won't forget it next time I draw a close up with his face
or just the outfit, maybe?)
Oh my, you read all of it! Afer all this reading all the technical parts, you must at least be a little bit bored, haha... so here for you a cup of tea
and a little chocolate
, because it's Christmas
Thank you for reading, and stay tuned!
