Mmm... I changed my mind. This one's better.

Soooo, this is basically all the progress I've made since the last time I posted here This little project's taken a back seat at the moment while I slowly sort my life out, but I'll be back chipping away at it again as soon as I stop feeling guilty about having free time!

I went all the way back to the drawing board in the end, after I looked through a bunch of things I drew right before I gave up on art because I sucked, was never improving and would never develop my own style.

I actually think those old drawings were pretty good, it's obvious I was getting better with each one, and they distinctly all share a style. Who'd have ever thunk?

So I had a go at re-capturing it while I was trying to re-learn how to even just do a rough sketch, and ended up here. The short one's a first draft of the soon-to-be-very-tiny top down sprite version, whose running animation I absolutely will not overcomplicate to the point of butchery this time.

I still don't know what I'll end up settling on, but I do like this version way better!

Aaand I went with something totally different Of course! Next - actual sprites, probably.

I used to be ok at this but now I kind of suck. They really should make it so skills don't degrade over time and we can put them in a box and never think about them again for half a decade with no consequences. #pixelart #gamedev #GIMP

@Narwhalnut is a Jolter to Watch who programs bugs in his game Insectile! Follow @Narwhalnut before the quest ends on December 16 and you'll get Coins!

Finally! an asset for this actual game instead of an old, unrelated one! I kind of hate it she keeps going momentarily bald, and how have I made her legs so weird, and I really need to make it transition nicer between directions... but it's a start!

This was one of our very first concepts when exploring ideas for our new game.

A menu! And a screen transition!! (that only works when loading files rn..) This all took way too long. But it does look cool!! Now let's see if I can do story time without writing an entire autobiography...

Oh no... time has accidentally happened. Again. And now I have to totally restart the art direction because my style is more like this and not really anything like the sprite I drew so now I kind of hate it.

Thanks to everyone who hopped in to check out the new Winter Map in the Bandit Trap beta! Who all had a chance to play?

Presenting as promised... one sprite! This is the first time I ever felt like I got the top-down angle right, so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself. Now I get to do the fun part!
