New year Acre Shore overhaul!

Since it's a whole new year and I'm making huge progress on Acre Shore, I decided it was about time I did away with a lot of my old systems to make way for better ones to speed up the development process.

The first thing to get a massive "glow up" was the menu system. The old version was designed to be flexible- but it turns out I failed massively to achieve the desired effect. It became a messy pile of stuff. I replaced all of that stuff with a single instance that controls all the menu stuff. On top of that, it's so much easier to add new menus so I finally separated my audio and video settings- a task I was not looking forward to with the old menu system.

I'm also reworking a lot of the narrative system. It seems counterproductive since I've already done so much but there are some really awkward bits I want to fix. Simply put, if even I need to consult the documentation regularly for a system I created, custom story creators are going to hate me. Chances are, if the narrative system isn't nice to work with, potential custom story writers just won't bother.

With all that being said, I think a demo is getting closer by the day. My excitement is growing harder to contain!

Arguably the most important part of the game's development- the script writing. Not just the actual writing part, but also the way the game reads and understands scripts. This is the format so far.

How are babies made? Well, I don't know! but I do know how my characters are made. First, they start as sketches like these! (also, sneaky peek at some new characters)

LGBTQ+ Game Dev Icons:

David Gaider is a dev who worked on Dragon Age, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and more! (He's also openly gay.)

As part of his work on KOTOR, he created the Sith Code!

My new narrative file format is working wonderfully! This is a massive step forward! (also, please do enjoy the sketch in place of final artwork- I've learned to leave the polished art for later in the name of progress)

The story of 'Going Down' is falling into place nicely. The visuals are looking lovely. The atmosphere is spooky with more than a touch of mystery.

I am very happy with progress!

Taking its time, but not forgotten...

@balmut is a Jolter to Watch and game dev making a game about building a town for goblins! Follow @balmut before the quest ends on June 17 and you'll get Coins!
