Phoenix Engine - September 2024 Devlog

Hello, and welcome to the first Phoenix Engine Devlog! Firstly, I'd like to thank everybody for +1k views and +120 followers since the release of the engine a bit more than a month ago. This engine is a passion project of mine and I'm glad people are liking it.

In this article, I'd like to talk recap what's been going on over the past few week and talk about my future plans of it. Most of this information is probably stuff already discussed, but at the end I'll talk about some new information that you might not already now.

Recap

Around the beginning of the month, I publicly announced the next major version for Phoenix Engine: Beta 1.05. This feature would consist of several features that were meant to be ready for the first major public release (Beta 1), but were unadded so fans wouldn't have to wait longer for the engine to release. I've decided to slowly bring in features that I've made for 1.05 into minor versions of Beta 1.

Features currently available that were from 1.05 are: Script Breakpoints, Functions, Panorama, Crash Report System, Custom Nights & CN Buttons, and Pathway Properties. There were some minor features also, such as the Duration property for paths now allowing you to set a range rather than a single number, warning and error notifiers can visually appear in the script editors, and more, but I understand those aren't too noteworthy.

Future of Beta 1.05

For those interested in some other features that would be coming into Beta 1.05, there are a few I'd like to bring up.

  1. Exporter - Due to the high demand of people wanting to export their games, I decided to have a Phoenix Engine exporter come much earlier. Right now, I'm only going to allow users to export to EXE (Windows), HTML (Website), and APK (Android).

  2. "Display" Elements - Display elements will be a new type of office element that'll allow you to have monitors in your office without the need of the monitor covering your entire screen. This could help if you'd like to make something like the FNAF 3 maintenance panel. Also, yes, the Display element is one of the main reasons why the monitor tutorial is delayed.

  3. Minigames - Due to a recent vote in the Phoenix Engine Discord server (which you should join lol), Minigames, which were originally intended for Beta 2, are now coming to Beta 1.05. This will probably be the biggest feature for 1.05 because not only will this be the feature that would take the longest for me to make out of the ones I've planned, but also I just planned too many things for this.

There's a lot of other stuff for Beta 1.05, but I want to keep them a surprise.

Future of Phoenix Engine

Right now, there isn't much planned that hasn't already been said. Although, I'm gonna say them again anyway.

  • Besides more tutorial videos, expect there to be livestreams and podcasts related to Phoenix Engine. They'll probably be of me working in and on Phoenix Engine.

  • I found a couple new developers to help me work on Phoenix Engine so it wouldn't just be me, so production might be much faster in the future.

  • Remember when I said Beta 1.05 is coming out on October 5th. I think you could already tell that it's heavily delayed. I just know it'll be completed before Winter.

  • Beta 1.05 might be renamed to Beta 2 because, as you might've noticed, Beta 1.05 has a ridiculous amount of large features that should be for a major release. Although, I'll make a post about it once I decided.

And that is about it. I'd like to thank those who actually read this entire post. I'm probably not gonna make this a monthly thing. I'll probably just do it every three months.

I'm excited to show y'all what I have next for the engine! Thank you and have a nice day.

1000 FOLLOWERS DEVLOG

I know I said the showcase would be next week, but I was eager to show it early. Sorry that the video is low quality. The original size of the video was +300MB and I had to compress it. Read the article for a few more details I'd like to talk about.
