If you remember the silhouette challenge I did a lil while ago, I decided I'd try starting with a dynamic shape and see if anything inspired me.
I ended up trying a few different shapes before settling on the one I ended up using.
The third one felt nice and dynamic, and I ended up altering it a bit before getting a more solid form.
As I worked on it, I ended up remembering some (horrifying and tragic) real life witch lore. As you may already know, there were lots of ways in the past of executing "testing" suspected witches. One of them was binding them to a chair and sinking them to the bottom of a lake.
If they drowned, they were innocent. If they didn't, they were a witch. Hence the title of the post. I liked the idea that in trying to kill her, they ended up making her more of a threat than ever. A witch who's entire design is based on the method by witch she "died".
Whether or not she was a good person in-life, I'm not sure, as there isn't really a world attached to this, and what "magic" and "witches" are varies from setting to setting. But I imagine now she is a force of pure vengeance.
I have some fun ideas for both Vampire and Bat as well, but I was really struggling with the former and ended up giving up lol
Maybe I'll come back to it but we'll see. ^.^
As you can probably see, aside from the whole being bound to a chair thing, many of the witches features are also reminiscent of marine life. Her face and hair somewhat tentacle and squid-like. Her dress like the tail of a fish. Her hat shapes like a shark or dolphins fin.
I said at the start of the month I wanted to practice coming up with more interesting designs, and if this art is any indication I think that practice is coming along really well!
What do you think? ^.^
