The lyrics to No Meaning to Time

Before I start spilling out the lyrics here, I think I need to explain some stupid things.

First off, I don't know about what to do next. Depression can hit hard like a truck, and I'm experimenting with story ideas. Right now, the one that's sticking with me is NOT Edge of Fantasy, but something I'm calling Cindy and the Street Magicians. Secondly, I always hoped that this game would be my big break, and it wasn't. In retrospect, mistakes were made, but I tried my hardest. Perhaps, asking my audience about ideas in mid-development is not the best idea, after all.

So... yeah. I can't say I'm in the best place right now. However, I think I did make something decent.

Anyway, here are the lyrics. It's meant to be sung by two people. Originally, it was written for the ending, but since a song being sandwiched between a critical song and the credits theme would be too awkward. The backup music was also meant to be more akin to a Pop version of an Alan Menken-written Disney song (...or Somewhere That's Green from Little Shop of Horrors). Also, there was meant to be a full sequence to the music, which honestly works better with the temp song idea, Don't Stop Believin' by Journey.

...oh, and I never bothered to rewrite these lyrics to be any better.

SUSAN
When I was young, I had everything
I thought a girl could need.

MYLES
When I was young, I tried really hard
to find ways I could succeed.

SUSAN
I didn't need more,
Then you opened a door
To a wonderful world I haven't seen before.

MYLES
I thought I was sure,
Then I felt your allure,
And my mind's having thoughts I once thought impure,

MYLES and SUSAN
And that's when I knew

There's no meaning to time
When we are together.
Would it be such a crime
If it lasted forever?
We don't have much time,
But it was sublime.
I know that our feelings are too strong to die,
Because I love you too much
To say good-bye.

MYLES
When I grew up, I had found success
in the things that I would do.

SUSAN
When I grew up, I had never thought
I would meet someone like you.

MYLES
I was unaware,
Then one day, you were there,
And now I could believe I could fly through the air.

SUSAN
The look in your eyes
had took me by surprise,
and this love was a thing I would re-a-lize.

MYLES and SUSAN
And that's when I knew

There's no meaning to time
When we are together.
Would it be such a crime
If it lasted forever?
We don't have much time,
But it was sublime.
I know that our feelings are too strong to die,
Because I love you too much
To say good-bye.

(guitar solo bit, meant for one little detail in the ending that did make it in)

MYLES (and SUSAN)
There's no meaning to time (There's no meaning to time)
When we are together. (When we are together.)
Would it be such a crime (Would it be such a crime)
If it lasted forever? (For-eeeeeever!)

MYLES and SUSAN
We don't have much time,
But it was sublime.
I know that our feelings are too strong to die,
Because I love you too much...

SUSAN
Yes, I love you too much...

MYLES
Yes, I love you too much
To say good-bye.

SUSAN
I'll never say good-bye.

MYLES
I'll never say good-bye.

SUSAN
I'll never say good-bye.

I got the keyboard and gamepad input-changing in here.

Try to keep track of the difference between using strings (for the labels on each key) and using actual variables (how the game interprets inputs).

...let me be honest, the convention level isn't working well as a platformer.

So, I think I should add top-down sections. The combat would work about the same. I think you shouldn't jump in top-down mode, so sliding will take its place there.

Just wanted to try out what I mentioned earlier.

Also, I replaced Curly Sue with a character from a film directed by Chris Columbus, but has nothing to do with John Hughes.

Convention centers are kinda sad without people in them.

The real trick, however, is figuring out the layers. Should I do a big strip of crowds, or silhouettes of other booths, or what? It's a 2D platform game. Making environments can be tough.

I was considering releasing the expansion today, but then I found a lot of bugs I should've spotted in the original build, and I made the minimap do extra stuff for said expansion.

Don't worry, it'll be out by tomorrow night.

Back in my day, there were always cartoon robots and factories full of weird stretchy arms with white cartoon gloves to do normal human jobs.

The more you think about it, the more ridiculous it gets.

Part of the expansion involves a cute little fight right here. ...in space for no apparent reason.

...too bad it won't be as epic as the final boss, but still...

...and some banners to complete the look of the convention.

I don't think I can legally call it RoboCon. Techno-Con might also be taken, but I don't know.

Coming soon to another update.

Lemme get some work done with it first, then we'll talk.

Sometimes, inspiration is as simple as thinking of an old game you played once.
