VAULT is a nice puzzle game, in fantasy style with a bit of a roguelike feeling.
The bartender tells the story of two men, and one woman who dared a vault nobody came back from alive, and who were up until now the only three to make it back alive.
You assume the role of these three personas. A warrior who can kill enemies, and move blocks. A rogue who can disarm traps and get over certain areas faster. A sorcerer who can bring light in dark places and who manipulate magic traps.
Unfortunately I only played the short demo, but what I saw looks very extremely interesting. First of all I like how the tutorials are given in story-teller style. The story-teller will tell the story of what the warrior can do, and then you'll see the key on the screen how the warrior can live up to the story-teller's story. Same goes for the thief and the sorcerer. I must add to that that the voice actor who did the story-teller did a very good job. Really the feeling of a story-teller, and grabbing my attention.
The controls are based on the combination of WASD and the mouse. So you use the WASD key combinations to control your chosen character and you have to turn them around with the mouse. I've never been fond of these kinds of controls, but I must say I got the hang of that soon. This is in the first place a puzzle game, so you gotta use your brain. There is no time limit, but there are some portions you must time well. Like when a trap appears you have a short time to bring forth your thief and make her disarm the trap or it will go off, killing you if you are in range.
You have unlimited lives and dying will just reset the puzzle. Although violence is not what this game is about, parents should be aware that getting killed does show some blood. It's not my place to say not to let your children play this game. I advise parents to play the game themselves first and to see if they think they kids can handle that.
I like the atmospheric music of this game, and so far the puzzles are not too hard, but a bit of timing was getting the best of me some times.
In every puzzle you can optionally collect gold. I recommend you to do so. There are rats around who'll trade the gold for very nice items that can help you on your quest. Some have effects not to be underestimated.
All in all I liked what I saw. Nice retro graphics, good music, a very good story-teller, easy to understand controls and a challenge to solve everything out. Not to mention is that the game appears to support multiple languages (I was asked to pick a language). Can I say something negative... Okay, but this is nit-picking... In "Together, the Fighter, the Theif, and the Wizard"... You can see it? Yes "thief" was misspelled.... But as I said, that is nitpicking. If you like fantasy themed games in an atmospheric environment that require you to use your brain and you are not afraid of timing.... I'd say try this game.
