Smitty 2Ā brings backĀ the adorable platforming adventureĀ into a brand new level! Walk, hop and sprint through the interconnected areas around Dripsdale and search for Dropple Capsules and Energy Pellets scattered throughout.

What's new in the sequel:

  • Smitty's moveset has been upgraded a little, he can now double-jump and slide down steep slopes!

  • Dialogues! Experience the story and learn the basics as you play!

  • As opposed to the first game's linear approach, areas are now connected to one another, making it a true 2D open world Metroidvania-esque experience.

  • Assists now provide unique benefits, not just for clicking buttons and taking down enemies.

In the SAGE 2024Ā demo, you'll get to experience these features first-hand:

  • Play as Smitty, now with more refined movement and physics

  • 8(?) Dropple Capsules to be opened

  • Explore the first 4 sectors (and a hidden bonus cave) of the visually-refreshed Emerald Plains and face the area's boss immediately after

  • A brand new assist, Nana to help you get across

Keyboard controls (remappable through the Options dialog)

  • Left / Right Arrow Key - Move

  • Space - Jump

  • Control - Shoot Projectiles

  • Shift (hold) - Sprint

  • Up Arrow Key - Interact (Capsules, entrances, etc.)

Wanted to do idle animations much earlier, but not feeling like it until now.

Anyway, here are the 2 animations I did for Smitty.

Figuring out how to properly switch scenes in Godot, and hey, it works flawlessly! Now to add some transitions and more persistent states.

We finally got the HUD, people! And guess what, ability bubbles are back too!

Follow-up to the last post: Fireballs now explode on contact with the enemy.

I also figured out how to make use of the additive blend mode through materials, thanks Godot!

Finally, we got projectiles!

Of course, Smitty doesn't get it outright, he needs the Ability Bubbles to be able to shoot projectiles.

Also, if you question the super basic UI, it's only temporary. Don't worry, folks.

Finally, the first Smitty 2 progress post on Game Jolt!

Decided to make ALL house roofs work as platforms this time, unlike in the first game because Unity's tile system kind of suck.

Smitty 2 Game Jolt page is now live!
