Yes I grew up listening to "The Food" by Common, but that is besides the point.
On first glance, the phrase is self explanatory - "getting things done late is better than quitting on them".
You know me to often explore the pages and progress on devs and projects I find interesting, so when I comment this phrase on your posts, it really goes deeper than just what I observe in them.
I am actually telling you two things:
the first is the self-explanatory surface connotation of the phrase. I genuinely mean that if you do not give up, you can still complete what you set out to do and it is okay if it is a little late. Your promise to deliver the content is still valid as long as you don't quit.
The second is that you are only a human being, and as humans we are prone to mistakes and setbacks - thus I would prefer that your progress be slowed if you need to step back for a minute to figure things out and come back stronger instead of quitting on the project and yourself the second you see what is "perfection" to you on someone else's work. This one is a little more subdued because it may not apply to everybody, but the ones it does apply to know EXACTLY who they are.
I have been seeing a lot of creators on here constantly posting apologies for not being active, or being late as if they're at work at risk of being fired. I find it very sweet of them to let their friends know they need a break, but what is there to be sorry for?
As human beings we all have the right to a break. You should NEVER have to apologize for taking care of yourself. ALWAYS choose your mental health over any audience.
I comment the phrase "slow motion is better than no motion" to let them know that to me, they are humans with intelligence, emotions, personal demons, and hearts. It's my way of letting them know that whatever is eating away at their motivation needs to be handled ASAP because it is affecting them as people as well as their game development or art/writing/music/etc.
With that I say "slow motion is always better than no motion". We as an audience can learn patience if we want your best work, so take the time you need when you need it.
