Current state of the Game Design Bible finalization
As of right now, most of the game's story writing has been completed. These include both the game's Prologue, the first chapter and all of the prompts for the first adventure campaign of the game.
Following a review of the game's story, it is now clear that the free prologue of the game will contain :
- The game's prologue
- The first two chapters of the first act of the game.
Currently, however, the work on each of the adventure campaign quests has been more difficult than i would have first expected.
For context, "Adventure campaigns" are a set of quest with a given time limit the player will have to pass through during the events occurring within Nechauria, this game's world.
Each quest is fully scripted, and comes in three types, being : Open World Quests, Intrigue Quests, and Project Quests.
Open World Quests, as an example, come with a map of the given region. The player will then have to utilise said map in order to complete their objective, by moving from one side of the region to another. Hence the name, "Open World".
Creating the fully scripted quests has shown to be far more of a challenge than first expected, but i am hopeful this slight delay will not pose too much of an issue in term of release. After all, the adventure campaign is set to be the biggest chunk of writing left to do. Once over, not much will be left to write down.
For those who are interested :
- Intrigue Quests will always come with a character sheet, and will center around manipulating and uncovering information from the various characters of the quest in order to tackle a given problem. (Murder mystery, political intrigues, etc..)
- Project Quests will always come with a blueprint, and will center around utilising resources and characters in order to successfully complete a given project. (Building a guard tower, leading an army, etc..)
As for the difference between "Story/Main/Side" quest, they simply refer to the length of the given quest. Story quests will take longer to complete, have more intrigue and also more risks for the characters who take part in them. Main quests will strike a balance, while side quests will be the shortest to complete.
The world of Origin
As you must have noticed by now, something else has popped up alongside the world of Nechauria. And that is the world of Origin, or more specifically, the world of the Mainframe Sealing System.
While teased plenty of time until now, this seems as good time as any to officially reveal it's existence to those who follow this project.
The world of Origin is a META centred world with horror themes, which you as the player will walk through in full 3D space.
While most of this side of the game will be kept under wraps in order to keep the surprise of uncovering it by yourself, i can on the very least showcase some of the very first level's map in order to satisfy some of your excitement when it comes to this new, mysterious world.
Without going into too much details, your own choice as to how you decide to tackle this first "Mainshaft level" will drastically alter the feeling of the game.
- Sneak around, and you'll enjoy a horror themed game where the slightest sound or mistake will be punished harshly.
- Escape as soon as possible, and you'll enjoy a high octane, desperate escape as you are hunted down the whole way through.
The story around the world of Origin will be paramount to SotML, and will be intertwined with that of the world of Nechauria. As for the whole META element, I'll leave it to you to discover what that exactly means in game.
End thoughts
All in all, the Game Bible production has lagged behind somewhat due to the challenge that the "Adventure Campaign" of the game poses to write down.
However, i am still confident that work in Unity should begin very soon, and that an end of the year release should become very much possible still.
The game's prologue will be available on both Gamejolt, Itchi.io and Steam. As for the full version of the game, it will only be sold on Steam.
Currently, i am starting to lean toward a premium type release rather than a chapter based one. Meaning i do believe the game might, in the end, be sold as a whole package instead of through 4 DLCs like i had originally intended.
In any case, i thank you once again for your interest in this project, and hope these new additions of the Adventure Campaign and the world of Origin excites you for the coming prologue.
See y'all later, and have a good one boiz.
