It's devlog time!

Hi guys! I'm Skye, one of the devs for this horrible, horrible game. Today, we're hot in with an epic update for this epic game. Let's get started, shall we?


BATTLE OVERHAUL

Based on feedback (mainly from myself) we've been revamping and rebalancing the battle system to bring more elements from Persona, all the while remaining a unique gameplay style.

Weaknesses from Persona are back, and you can easily see what weaknesses you've struck through a displayed guage beneath the enemy!

Additionally, a certain other Persona mechanic is returning, though it's still a WIP in terms of functionality. For now, here's two screenshots that I'm sure will give it away.

We've also switched to a new battle system, where once a player chooses an aciton for that character, they will immediately perfrom that action! This is a departure from bog-standard RPG Maker combat, and something we felt would help bring this game closer to Persona.

That's not all, however...


STYLE SWITCHING

George and Yu will be able to switch movesets in battle with the return of the Style Switching mechanic from Yakuza! Both of them have three different movesets to experiment with, each with their own unique pros and cons, so have fun experimenting!


STORY AND OVERWORLD

The overworld and all major story events are done. We're close to 200 rooms for this demo alone! Pretty insane stuff. Additionally, the world is fitted with sidequests. Speaking of which, we recently finished the main sidequest for this game, which features three challenging bosses! It's a pretty wild ride, so buckle up for it.

Additionally, social links are close to being completed. We're stringing together the final of the sidequests that trigger these, and polishing everything up. As of right now, there are Twelve optional social link events in this demo! (Not counting mandatory story ones.) We hope you have fun going through them all, some of them bring unique experiences to the table!

FISHING MINIGAME

Feeling bored of our perfect, not at all overinflated game? Well, look no further than our fishing minigame! Fishing may net you some unique rewards, too! In fact, I hear talk of a very strange fish in these ponds... perhaps you should check it out?

QUEST MENU

With all the quests in this game, it's easy to get lost. That's why there's a quest menu to help you out! This thing's gonna get filled up pretty quickly, so keep a good eye on it!

VISUAL OVERHAUL

Finally, we've visually overhauled a good few sprites, portraits, animations, and everything inbetween since the last demo! Additionally, a good few NPCs who didn't have portraits now have them!

RELEASE

We're not quite sure when we're going to be able to release this, to be honest. We're very close to completion, but we still have music to wait on, and still a lot of balancing to do. It's a long road, but we'll get there!


ONE MORE THING

We've been collaborating on something very special for our Chapter 1 release. Something you definetly aren't expecting. For now, we can't talk about it. But look forward to finding out what it is, because, believe me, it's something to look forward to.

With that said, thank you all for the support! We're excited for the upcoming release of Chapter 1 - Riding Along The Rivers Of Despair. Before we go, however, we'd like to tease a certain encounter. This will be our last devlog before release, as we don't want to spoil anything more! With that said, please enjoy!

Just a small reminder that we are still working on this game! Here's a look at the new dynamic battle portraits in action, done by Frog in an act of god I can't comprehend.

Hello! My name is GreatestFrog, one of the three devs of George and Yu. I'd like to take you through some stuff we've been cooking up, and talk about the state of the project.

We now have a fishing minigame.

Shoobies leave a sticky trail of mucus in their wake, which can impede movement for any creature that steps in it.

Sometimes the suction cup get sticky. Small animation I made in Blender after doing my tutorial on picking up/dropping objects in animations. Crate model by jQueary (https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/game-ready-sci-fi-crate-d98deca6…).

Regular exercise is key for healthy wings.

2d lighting experiment

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!

Here's a Fredbear sprite i made in Aseprite! I'm pretty proud of this!
