This week, we’ll be discussing both minibosses and bosses. If you don’t want any bosses to be spoiled, now’s the time to yeet outta here.
We’ve seen a few minibosses before, such as this one fought in a cavern level:
As you can see, it has a new attack where it charges toward the player. This gives players an opening to attack if they’re feeling overwhelmed by the homing mines. Of course, experienced players can still beat the miniboss more quickly by attacking it while it releases its projectiles.
What exactly is the difference between a boss and a miniboss? Minibosses aren’t limited to one per world. They can show up at any point in a level. Contrast this with bosses, which appear at the very end of a world. Bosses also have much more health than minibosses, and are generally tougher to defeat.
There’s one more difference between bosses and minibosses: bosses adapt to your attacks. Whenever you damage a boss during a particular one of its attacks, the boss becomes less likely to use that attack again.
Notice how this boss uses its flying attack less and less the more it gets hit.
And with that, we wrap up our final post of 2018. See you next month!
