What is It's Showtime?

It’s Showtime is an indie horror game in pre-production being created by two queer artists, Whirly/Cobalt and Roddy. It’s a Bendy fan game that is an entire overhaul of both the lore and timeline. With five chapters and a lot of inspiration taken from indie horror, primarily mascot horror. It’s Showtime is NOT a free alternative to any of the Bendy games and it is NOT a rewrite of Bendy And The Ink Machine. It is a very character-focused narrative and by no means do we want people talking about it as if it were just a better version of BATIM.

It's planned to have puzzles, chase sequences, improved movement and combat mechanics, and narrative-focused gameplay. This will all be elaborated on with the posts and concept art displayed on this page!

We have an official wiki/site for Showtime, a Twitter account and a Tumblr ask blog! They have doodles, refs, and bios for the characters/story to check out; but everything related to game development and such will be posted here! With exclusive peaks into how the game is coming along and work-in-progress content!

Story Summary

The story follows Henry a retired animator, who after ten years comes back to his old workplace to find the place abandoned and staff missing. The walls are soaked with ink and the entire place smells of death and misery. Despite that, Henry journeys deeper and deeper into the dark abyss below, discovering what remains of his coworkers and the way grief can tear a family apart…

But not even the shadows of his past, clawing at him from the dark puddles, is enough to deter Henry from his attempts to find out what happened to his family and make things right…

Assuming he’s not too late to do so…

Rating and Warnings

It’s Showtime deals with themes of grief, family, trauma, despair, hope, and mental illness, with heavy influences from the 1930s time period it takes place in. It is not a game for small children as it also features talk of suicide, self-harm, and bigotry.

This story is meant to be rated R! The warnings below elaborate on this. Slight spoilers ahead!

Warning this project contains: Cursing, blood, gore, body horror, and death. Themes of internalized bigotry, depression, discrimination, abusive family members, grief, trauma and self-hatred. Mentions/Jokes of NSFW topics, alcohol, and recreational substances. Traumatic flashbacks and panic attacks are depicted but abuse, suicide, and self-harm are mentioned/implied.

FAQ

Who Are The Devs?

The Dev team is me aka Cobalt (They/It) and my romantic partner, Roddy (He/She/They/Xe/It), we’ve been together for years and are very in love with this project and story! We have our own art blogs where we post all our art but keep in mind art shown off here, even if it contains characters from It’s Showtime, should not be considered official art. Anything not posted on the official Showtime accounts or the site regardless of who drew it, is considered non-canon to Showtime. If you want to look into supporting us as artists and creators you should check those out though! Obviously, for legal reasons, we can’t advertise any ways to support us in a monetary sense on this site.

Roddy’s art blog is here and my art blog is here!

What Is This Project?

It’s Showtime is currently beginning development as an indie horror game, no promises on the scale or when it will come out as we are both very busy, Roddy with school and me with figuring out post-high school life stuff, but I have been learning 3D animation and modeling in preparation for it. All the work I’m doing currently isn’t game-ready or worthy, but every small step in development makes me more excited to one day maybe make this project a reality! Currently, the plan is to build it in Unity 3D.

Are You Okay With Fanart?

We love fanart! If you send us any of your fanart we are sure to sing its praises! It’s so flattering how much fanart we have already received and it makes us so happy and excited to work on Showtime when we see how beloved our designs are! If you want to make fanart please do! We would love to see it!

Who did the character design? Who made the site?

Roddy did all the refs you see with the characters! They are based on my old character designs and notes I made on changing them, but overall they are very much the creation of my wonderful darling! It was me who made the website though! It’s a bit rough but I do like it a lot. I hope to expand it and make it better with time but for now, I am very happy with it as a wiki for Encore.

What is Encore?

Encore is the catch-all name for all stories based on the world of It's Showtime, currently, there is a BATDR-inspired story we are also writing called Curtain Call that doesn’t take place in the normal timeline of It’s Showtime. So Encore is just the general name for this universe! Think of it as the franchise name.

I still have a question after reading this!

Send us a message! Don’t ever feel bad for sending us questions or inquiries! We like to talk about Encore!

Howdy! Cobalt here, with the first, of hopefully many, end of the month updates! These are gonna be formatted with work made that month going first and then afterwards any other announcements or things we'd like to share. For your convenience, of course.

Happy birthday to Sammy and chapter 2 of BATIM! Here's a bit of art me and my partner made to celebrate featuring The Prophet himself in his Encore! design.
On Game Development stuff however:

I've been making a lot of progress on Showtime recently, most of it being on the writing side of things. So have this small update with a couple of fun facts about the game in terms of writing!

Concept art time! Here we have Henry fleeing the ink demon, after being smacked in the head by his prophet, as the monster tears through doors and planks to get to him. Henry must slide under and jump over obstacles to avoid becoming victim to the ink.

First bit of environment concept art we did for Showtime, here we have the music department! Heavily infused with both the personalty and colors of Sammy Lawrence. It is his domain after all and we're still super happy with how it looks!
