Dethroned Devil

Finally got around to start a #devlog here at Game Jolt for my atmospheric open-world RPG that I've been working on for the past few months - Dethroned Devil!

What is this Dethroned Devil?

Dethroned Devil is an open-world RPG set in an abandoned fantasy world, inspired by Made in Abyss and Hyper Light Drifter.

What will this game focus on?

I want to focus on creating an atmospheric world that the player can immerse themselves in. It will be accompanied by a charming story and intense bossfights, in which the music breaks the boundaries of aesthetics and function. You can find a more detailed feature list on the game page!

What is the scope of this project?

Dethroned devil is currently the largest project that I've ever worked with. I've been working with game development for over 5 years now, and I think it's time for me to try to create something grander. This will be a rather massive open-world game that I'm planning to release in chapters to compensate for the small team.

What inspired me to take on this project?

I'm taking inspiration from classic masterpieces like Hollow Knight and Hyper Light Drifter, as well as animated series called "Made in Abyss". I fell in love with that anime the moment I saw it, and I think I told you enough how much I like creating atmospheric environments. I wanted to create a beautiful yet threatening world with original fantasy concepts. I decided to mix the world aesthetic of Made in Abyss with demonic elements with a colorful twist, and this is how I got the idea for Dethroned Devil.

What is the Dethroned Devil Game Jolt page for?

I will be using this project page to post regular updates and screenshots. This will also be the place where I will eventually upload the free demo version of the game when it is ready. I'm planning to release a demo version/vertical slice sometime during 2022.

I want to thank everyone who has supported this project on my Twitter and I'm looking forward to sharing exciting content here at Game Jolt!

Added some explosion shockwave effects to enemies when they die. Might need to reduce the intensity on those 😅 #indiegame #indiedev #IndieGameDev #gamedev #madewithunity #screenshotsaturday #pixelart

Thanks to Razer for providing the laptops and peripherals!

The plants also react to entity movement. So if something moves through them, they will wobble depending on that object's velocity #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #pixelart #devlog #IndieGameDev #wishlistwednesday

Vanishing platforms are ready! They fall when something heavy steps on them (like the player) but can support lighter weights like the critter birds. #indie #game #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #madewithunity #IndieGameDev #screenshotsaturday

Check out this automatic tiling! Tilemap Extras package is probably one of the best 2D tools for Unity. It allows you to create stuff like this which makes it a lot easier to build levels #indiedev #gamedev #madewithunity #screenshotsaturday

More combat preview! I'm planning to add an entire weapon system that would allow you to wield a visible sword or scythe that you swing around to deal damage. There's also going to be weapon customization and all that good stuff #gamedev #indiedev #devlog
