Weekly Update #21

I’m back! Apologies for the awkward silence again, but this time, I had nothing interesting to show plus I had a busy week. So, what’s coming in?

Northbridge!:

You may have seen a glimpse of the all new Northbridge launcher (either from my gamedev blog, or you downloaded the latest version of the demo), but I never went in more detail on what’s coming. Let’s take a deeper look, shall we?

First up, the launcher was rebuilt from the ground up in C# for my ease of programming. It has also been redesigned for less clutter (both in UI and in coding).

Next up, is the Auto-Backup system. This automatically backs up your save files every time you launch the game.

I’ve also added a restore and delete all backups options, should you need it.

Two new additions: First, is the diagnostics tool. This checks a few things that are possible isssues (missing files, cannot save, etc)…

…Along with tabs to provide more info.

Second new addition is the bootstrap. This allows some features to work when you want to bypass the launcher and jump into the game.

Lastly, there are a few options added for your enjoyment. Currently, you can skip the splash screen, but more will be added.

Northbridge’s usage is to expand the game engine’s capabilities in a user-friendly way. True, some of you just want to play the game, but sometimes you wish you had some things built in. If you’d like to see something on the next game updates, let me know (Your feedback is always welcome).

Story:

I really don’t want to spoil the story, but I’ll keep it short, sweet and spoiler free. It’s almost ready. I will upload a video when i have a few things set. Stay tuned.

That is all for now. See you on the next post.

Next up

A bit of an old but goodie coming back: Quick Load! In an upcoming update, you can jump back to where you left off with a push of a button.

A small teaser for the next update.

It's pretty early, but here's a look at a mob manager, handling the enemies in the game. The code streamlines the programming of the enemies. Hopefully, I can expand it to more useful ways.

Jump List returns in the next update.

Time for a bit of shenanigans: RPG Maker MV running on top of Tauri! This more future proofed framework means better performace and smaller file sizes. It does require some re-work in the engine, but it could lead to true cross-platform games.

Done some improvements to the backup system. Even added an icon to let you know that it's working.

Implementing Armor Corrosion. This put quite a dent in the target's armor for a short time.

It's still pretty early work, but I am working on making the UI more dynamic and sleek. Including faces changing depending on their HP.

Something something... Stuff that I worked on.

Waz zis? An overhauled map? Yes. Coming soon.
