While the rest of Oka's controls are in the works, let's talk monsters.

Meet Kikimora.

And yes, my fellow Russian-speakers, that is text in legit Old Slavonic. What can I say, Your Honor? I'm a nerd. *adjusts glasses in an anime style*


"Not having said a single kind word in her life, she used to peck everyone for the smallest sin and just to appease her ego. Now in death her flesh is broken, and she is forced to wander the swamps for ninety years, smash her beak into blood and always look upwards..."

My design is based on Bilibin's art of Kikimora, which has a sharp and pronounced beak and chicken paws.

I was also inspired by Blasphemous' concept of the monsters being people who are twisted into horrible creatures because they asked or because they sinned. Just take a look at this wonderful enemy.

And I made Kikimora a monster who is being punished for her wrongdoings (as sin is non-existent in ancient Slavic mythology).

In Ivana Kupala, there will be two types of monsters; those who are being punished, and those who are evil and thus have supernatural abilities.

Devblog, 13th March 2023.

This is partially why I wanted to switch to Tilemaps. They are capable of stuff like THIS. Now I'm able to recreate any sort of lighting, any time of day, within any location that I create.

It is the reveal of the final boss of Ivana Kupala. Meet the MOTHER.

Devlog 20th September:

Repainted the TV screen. Fixed the code so that the mouse input goes through to the tilemap, then realized I don't need it. Fun days.
