Just a quick we're-not-dead update. Where have we been for the last two weeks? Distracted by politics like everyone else. First the Trump impeachment probe, then China.


What little work we've done was mostly project management, narrative design, combat planning, balancing; not much to show. But we squeezed in some GUI polishing yesterday. Tweaking alignments, icon bar, finalizing the color scheme. I think we're sold on green+black; very X-Files, glow-in-the-dark, simple, classic.

But what a week it's been... NBA, South Park, Blizzard, Epic, Riot, Winnie the Pooh. If China simply invaded Hong Kong and imposed martial law, I don't believe other superpowers would intervene militarily, only with lame sanctions. But when American ball players and cartoonists and GAMERS said a few words in support of Hong Kong independence, the ChiComs revealed their hand in the censorship of Western entertainment -- and they're so sensitive they make Resetera look like 4chan. The fallout has only just begun. As a superchat in Metokur's China Stream said, what if GamerGate 2.0 is World War Three? I love me some dark humor... but those bastards can't take a joke!

Thank God we live in America where we can talk about the CIA's role in the impeachment probe, US elections, MKULTRA, Al Qaeda, 9/11, the Iraq WMDs lie, and the JFK assassination (unless that was a legit Communist plot). And we can talk about Tiananmen Square and Tibet and the subversive globalist totalitarian ideology of "democratic socialism" AKA Communism. All of these 20th-century monsters are withering under the glare of a free internet that they're desperate to shut down BUT THEY CAN'T!!!

Somehow this has been very motivational. All the loose threads in Crusaders suddenly clicked into place and I remembered what's important: good combat, memorable characters, hard choices, very different endings, ok graphics, and having a spine.

v0.7.4 released - Dialogue, Class System, Scene Traversal

The important parts are all in. Now I need another month to follow up on turnbased combat, AI, the GUI system, equipment UI, and debugging.

Synthnostate v0.7.4 progress

Converted and cleaned up NPC/item data on day one. 100% smooth sailing, feels good man.

Dialogue UI ported (and converted from big-box-of-text to 'speech bubble' over the NPC's head)...

March 2021 big-picture update on Synthnostate: Crusaders of the Tinfoil Hat - basically the yearly “we’re not dead” post. I wanted this to be the WIP release announcement, but alas, I can only say we’re getting there.

SIDEQUEST: conspiracy overload is hampering development of this game, so I started the next one, where you play an eldritch vampire in a cyberpunk-gone-wrong future, because times like these call for a nice comfy fuck-the-world power fantasy.

Ported and overhauled ~95% of combat code from V1.

Combat GUI: UNACCEPTABLE. The code's a mess, I need to rewrite it. I've had some design changes in mind anyway.
