Feudums

Version: 0.5.37516 months ago
A continuously updated, online playable work-in-progress build. Feudums is not finished, but is in active development with a focus on total transparency and early dialogue with its community. Please pay anything only if you wish to support me in the development of Feudums.
4feudums.jpg

Feudums is a medieval-themed, online turn-based strategy with ZERO pay-to-win, presented in a carefully crafted, atmospheric hand-drawn visual style, contextual music tracks and original melodies and a true focus on its community.

Feudums blends 4X with grand strategyidler and online social/strategy game elements, is fully moddable and is also strictly fair to play - players have equal access to both content and features in multiplayer, so strategy truly reigns supreme.

Oversee your fiefdom, build your noble house and lead your vassals through the battlefields of both war and diplomacy. Can you shape the flow of history, or will it shape you?

The Dynastic Online Grand Strategy that respects your time!

Feudums follows the story of aspiring Noble Houses through an arc of games, from gaining rulership over their first, tiny fiefdom in a shaken medieval realm, onto an epic journey to establish their ever-lasting legacy.

Rule in Your Own Pace!

Play casually or dive in as a hardcore player, find - or change - your place through the vassal system that make everyone important in the feudal society.

Give instructions to your military companies, garrisons or fiefdoms, so they can address diverse situations in your absence. Let your court members to prepare with administrative reserves for when your attention returns to your lands.

...and by Your Own Achievements!

The asynchronous tick (turn) based gameplay encourages strategic thinking and allows ample time for devising plans.

Feudums is also strictly fair to play - players have equal access to content and features in multiplayer, and they cannot ever buy any gameplay bonus or advantage. Strategy reigns supreme. What else should characterize a strategy game in the first place?

Community is all!

I built a couple RPG MUSHes in the '90s and early 2000s and I have been working on this project for a very long time. Inspired by Amplitude's Games2Gether, my own MUSH experiences and indie realities, I offer full transparency through a continuously updated, totally free online multiplayer demo that serves as my interactive developer diary, and I actively collect and incorporate player feedback into development.

I am active in the game's discord community and have so far implemented hundreds of smaller features, changes and improvements based on player feedback. Development priorities based on my roadmap are also voted on by the community for years.

Some of the Key Features

  • Commemorate Your Story: with rich and detailed medieval heraldry that tells your story on your very shields and banners.

  • Lead Your Fiefdoms: Begin in a humble position and gradually expand into a mighty kingdom. Master the seasonal rhythm of medieval life as it interconnect everything from economy to warfare. Guide your serfs, expand and specialize regions, send out raids and protect your lands from hostile incursion.

  • Emerge in Feudal Noble Society: Take oaths and make promises, find your vassals, liege and political allies, then forge your path through betrayal and loyalty, opportunism and faithful service. Will false promises, fabricated claims and moral shortcuts help your rise in power or will they seal your fate?

  • Master the Art of War. Hire mercenaries, raise an expensive standing army or rally your feudal lances for military campaigns. Engage in wars alongside your allies, vassals, or liege lord, or draw your own war plans and set them in motion. Coordinate reinforcements, besiege and blockade strategic locations and use terrain, season and clever military tactics to secure victory.

  • Build Your Noble House: Play a different protagonist in each game, with their own personal traits, goals and drawbacks, but remember that every single deed, achievement or stain they earn will contribute to the legacy of your noble house, shaping the path for the following generation.

Inspirations

Inspired by the strong vibe of 90's classic Amiga/C64 games like Defender of the Crown and Lords of the Realm, the cool story-driven-sandbox style of Mount & Blade games, the great grand strategy mixture of Crusader Kings and the diplomatic and intrigue aspects of fan-favorite novels like Game of Thrones (A Song of Fire and Ice).

We're running our internal online test runs, testing our new features, a few new visuals and fixing glitches before we would release the new version of #Feudums to our community. Armchair generals, the time is near!

While the focus is still the warfare update, I can finally cross a UX optimization off my long todo list. Command details are now not floating but are attached to the command panel for both clarity & saving space.

Unfortunately I've developed a cold + fever this week, so I've been trying to deal with less complicated things, like some of the long due QoL improvements - as, *coughs* the show must go on.

WIP: trying to apply two styles - 'cause it looked like a great idea on paper -: like depicting small armies a bit cartoonish then as the larger they become, the more serious they will look.

Now if it could only work visually... :'(

Companies will be able to use stances, which augment their abilities towards a specific purpose, and you can set up behaviors for handling encounters, with superior / inferior / balanced forces, in your absence.

Still working on the warfare update.

You'll be able to recruit expensive mercenaries or rally levy troops (inexpensive but drafts your population and have a limited time of service). You can mix them in your Companies.

While making small Quality of Life updates, I'm *trying* to provide tons of details, so players can explore everything on their own through the UI, on a way that remains self explanatory and won't feel intimidating... but with success?

(ps: several game arts, like this, are offered in 4K to our supporters.)

Armies have finally made their way to our game maps. Sadly, this army doesn't belong to me.

Fun fact: dev sessions' AIs are borrowing the identity of our Vanguards (Supporters) when picking their Coat of Arms.
