ONCEFREE

ONCEFREE is an upcoming metroidvania action-adventure game set in the far-reaching region of Final Reprise: the last surviving region on planet Earth.

----------------------------------------STORY---------------------------------------

Final Reprise, or as the poor man calls it, God's Sin, is a dull city where everything is a shade of dim teal. In this city, ruled by the rich and 'pure', once laid home to people with strange biological enhancements. Some could climb up and slide down things with a set of spider legs on their backs. Some could fly a short distance with wings. Some could transform into pure energy to travel short distances in a flash. Some, though, could teleport to their will. These were the Finhali and these people believed they were the purest, smartest things on the planet and believed that all other blessings should be theirs. So they started building a technological empire, what they called (at the time) Heaven. And in Heaven, they kidnapped and experimented on other 'Blessed'. They tried to steal their 'blessings' to transfer to other Finhali. It never worked. So they got angry. The leaders of the Finhali made their own artificial Blessed, the Hali. These super-soldiers were small, agile, relentless and designed to follow orders to a T. They were sent out to slaughter and push any other Blessed into hiding. Years went by and all the other Blessed either died off or went underground (literally). On the Day of the New Dawn, a ceremony that happened at the end of every year to mark the start of a new year, the Authority announced that they had a tip on where all of the remaining Blessed were hiding and that they would flush them out and kill them. Desperate, a young Arachnid signed a contract that would free his people and the people of the entire world. All he had to do was kill the traitors.

-------------------------------GAMEPLAY + CONTROLS---------------------------

The gameplay of ONCEFREE is (in my opinion) innovative. At the save stations, you can select 2 blessings (or classes, if you prefer) that you can change at any time with the click of a button (and no cooldown, by the way!). The focus of the combat and the platforming is to refine your blessing setup and use the skills as needed (eg. double jumping as Avian, then change and quickly zap dash as Energian to get to a hard-to-reach place).

The controls are pretty typical from there, though: WASD to move, SPACE to jump, SHIFT to switch blessings, E to interact, LMB to do a melee attack, RMB to use the special ability of your chosen blessing (except for Avian, it's just SPACE twice to double-jump) ESC to pause.
