Game Summary

Welcome to The Worlds, where those with strong mind abilities are recognized and shine. Each World has its own leader and those who populate it.

In this story, you’ll start in a World called Compass World where an otter named Rotle lives. Rotle is a teenager in a popular band called Meteor Age.

While he has a strong presence in his group of friends, he doesn’t feel confident in his own abilities and has a lot of anxiety. He resorts to secluding himself in times to calm himself down.

Rotle may be popular in his group of friends, but they don’t often talk about their feelings and how they’re doing before performances. After some events that take place, Rotle ends up in The Worlds where life is very different from what he's used to in Biggert City.

Compass World is sectioned off from the rest of The Worlds, and the inhabitants are mostly oblivious to what other Worlds are out there. Once he finds himself in The Worlds, he meets Malik, who takes him through a series of trials and shows him a completely new lifestyle.

Development Information

This puzzle adventure game was developed in GB Studio. This project was created in one year as a Christmas gift for my brother. It's playable on a Game Boy Color if you have an EZ Flash Jr or you can play it on the Analogue Pocket.

This game takes place during the beginning of The Nays story and showcases what the R Nays were doing while the M and S Nays were in The Gek's World. There are flashbacks to events that took place before the story and tells the origins of The Worlds.

In this game dev log for The Nays Origins, I cover how I overcame some of the limitations of creating a GameBoy game. I also talk about some of the puzzle mechanics and character art that I made.

In this game dev log for The Nays Origins, I talk about how I made some of the custom music for the game and dive into making placeholder art to work towards the minimum viable product:

In my second dev log for The Nays Origins, I talk about how I wrote the story, made music, and designed the first level layouts on paper:

Here's the first dev log that I wrote last year when I started developing my Game Boy game, The Nays Origins! This one goes over my initial brainstorming and learning GB Studio.

The Nays Origins is a puzzle adventure game for Game Boy where you play as Rotle, an otter with anxiety and strong mind abilities. Join him on his quest to recruit others like him, known as R Nays, and seal away the previous generation.
