  • Will there be online multiplayer?
    Yes, it is already working!

  • How many alt costumes will there be?
    An indefinite amount. Unlike Super Smash Bros, character alts will function more like cosmetics in a game like TF2 or Fortnite. I will add more continuously, and many will be community made since I don't have infinite time.

  • What do you mean community made? (nobody asked this but I thought I should clarify)
    I'm adding support for custom character costumes, music and potentially stages. This will let you import custom sprites and audio files into the game easily, client-side only for obvious reasons.

    From this system I plan to make it that people can submit their custom alt costumes in the discord and the ones that I like might be added officially into the game's store, meaning they can also be seen by other players online.

  • Will the game have Deltarune characters?
    Yes.

  • Will the game have fanmade characters?
    Yes! The game is a celebration of the entire community rather than just the original Fox games. There will be a few fanmade fighters and MANY fanmade costume and stage references.

  • Will the game be like Super Smash Bros?
    No. The Super Smash Bros series exists already, so go play it! Undersmash will be very different. Some SSBU features will be missing from the game, and some features in Undersmash will be entirely original. Don't expect it to be a Nintendo game, I am only human!

  • What will the Story Mode be like?
    I do have a rough plan for the story, and for the gameplay in story mode. It will be quite similar to SSB Ultimate gameplay-wise (embarassing, I just told them the games would be completely different!) but it will have an actual story too, with characters and dialogue akin to Subspace Emissary from SSB Brawl.

    Chapter 1 of the story mode will release sometime before the 1.0 release of the game. The rest of the story mode will likely release then, unless I decide to drop chapter 2 earlier to give you some more to chew on.

  • Will there be original music?
    There will be some I hope, however I want to represent the musical side of the community by including work from various artists, so most of the tracks will not be made originally for the game, aside from the main theme and some other exceptions.

  • Can I work on the game too?
    If you are an artist, yes! The overworld section of the game needs LOTS of pixel artists to contribute their style into the game. Even if you only make a few sprites, that's still a contribution! Musicians are also very welcome to contribute. I might even just ask you if I can use some of your work but I'm more likely to see it and want to use it if you post it in the discord

    When it comes to programming and design, however, I am unfortunately a very picky developer. I have a very specific vision for my game and because of that I'm not going to hire some random geezer who doesn't understand the game and probably doesn't even know what they are doing

    If you want a job, join the discord server and mega impress me with your fanart and gameplay suggestions - prove to you have skills and can understand or enhance the game in your own way. I gave @Pixelite_Studios the job of Moveset Designer because they created some amazing in-depth moveset concepts that were creative and understood what I wanted for the characters, being even better than the concepts I had come up with.

  • Can I be a playtester?
    I am handing out playtester keys only to the people interracting most with the game (and to close friends). If you want to be a playtester, join the discord and post art, suggestions, and generally just chat. I don't want to hand out too many because I don't want the game to be leaked, and I'm not quick to trust people.

  • Why did you remove my playtester key?
    As I mentioned, I really do not want to hand out too many of these playtester keys. If I make someone a playtester it's because they interract with the game alot, but if you stop doing that after you get a key then there is not much point in you having one. If you are also not really giving any suggestions or bug reports then, again, there is not much point in you being a playtester. Playtesters will be removed if I think they might be misusing or just not using their rank at all... I have nothing against you at all, I am just trying to keep things secure.

  • Can you add my AU character?
    Undersmash is a celebration of the UT/DR community and it's creations. If I really like your character then I'd be happy to add them as an alt costume for an existing fighter. You will of course be credited if I do this.

  • Yeah, but I think my character should be an individual fighter with a seperate moveset and everything!
    Programming is hard and slow. Anyone who as worked on a game for this long knows that. Game balancing is 100 times harder.

    If I add your au character as a full-on fighter with their own moveset and code, not only would it take ages to implement, it would need to be balanced against with every other fighter in the game, and every other fighter in the game would need to be balanced against the new fighter too. Balancing is a continuous job which becomes harder and more time-consuming the more factors you implement.

    Nintendo managed it because they are a massive company with loads of money, and they still are picky with their characters. I am not a massive company, and I am definitely picky. I will choose which characters are on the cards: characters which are very popular and infamous in the community and characters I think can have an interesting and unique moveset. I will take suggestions any day but I will not add your random obscure au character so please do not ask me.

  • Did you get permission to use that music/art/character?
    Yes. All music used is either under a Creative Commons license, or I have permission from them to use their work. Nobody is being stolen from, and everybody is receiving credit :)

    You can see some of the artists I plan to use work from below, most of whom I directly asked permission from. Either way, if I used your work and you think I shouldn't have, contact me and I will remove the work immediately.
