Death In The Afternoon : Devlog #2 - April 4th
A Very Productive Week!
This week has been full of progress and new features for our game Death In The Afternoon. We have worked hard to improve the gaming experience and bring new and interesting elements to life. Here is an overview of the changes and additions we have made.
The New Plot! Arthur in Jail?
We have created the second plot of the game. It took us a lot of energy because it involves many steps. In one week, we managed to write the script, create 3D models and develop on Unity.
In this new part of the game, Arthur seems to wake up in jail after his blackout. The player will learn that it is only a sobering cell. Arthur will have to interact with the police and pass an interrogation to try to get out of this situation.
The new plot is accessible from the same binge as last week. To access it, you just need to drink more green glasses than blue ones. The player will have to discover what is the impact of the colors of the glasses by himself, which adds replayability. This mechanic allows to add interactive choices in the gameplay.
A More Assertive Artistic Direction
In addition to the new gameplay phase, we have also worked on the graphic aspect of the game. We have reworked the textures in all environments to have a stronger and more original identity.
The New Shader
We have also developed a new shader to improve the visual effects. This shader simulates the effect of alcohol on Arthur's vision, creating distortions and blurs that make the game more immersive.
The Small Changes
In addition to the major new features, we have made many small changes to improve the gaming experience.
Arthur's Thoughts
We have added Arthur's thoughts that appear on the screen from time to time. These thoughts give an insight into what Arthur feels and thinks, and they can also give clues about the plot.
Call History
We have also added a call history in Arthur's phone. You can now view missed calls and received calls, which can help you reconstruct the events of the evening.
The Bucket
We have replaced the shovel with a bucket in the first puzzle. This change should make solving the puzzle easier because it makes more sense to take water with a bucket than with a shovel.
The New Bugs
Unfortunately, with new features come new bugs. Here are some of the bugs we encountered this week.
The Rolling Bucket
The bucket tends to roll by itself when left on the ground. We are working on this bug to fix it in the next versions.
Flying Dialogues
The dialogues in the binge phase tend to get stuck in different parts of the room.
Saying Hello to the Police Officer
Using the cardboard box present in the police station, you can climb on the desk and go see the police officer who is behind the counter.
And Many More Things!
We have made many other changes and additions, but we cannot detail everything here. The new version is coming out tomorrow, don't hesitate to go test it. We hope you will enjoy the new features and improvements we have made. See you soon for a new devlog!
