#Devruary The kind of feedback that helps me most is "constructive criticism with a spoonful of sugar" - it ALWAYS helps to let the dev know they're doing something right despite needing improvement. Bonus points if the critic is invested in the project.

And yes, this is why I always make sure to find something about a project that I like and comment on it, even when I have harsh criticisms as well.

Not to hate on tough love, but devving (especially solodevving) can get very arduous VERY QUICKLY. And even the people with the most drive can eventually be broken from demoralization and burnout trying to either fix everything pointed out to them or chase a moving goalpost dictating what could give their game an actual "good" quality. All because they are constantly unsure if they are actually moving forward at all.

When it comes to any large goal like a dev project, ultimately it's up to the dev to see it through, but reassurance NEVER hurts. It can actually be paired with a harsh criticism quite well (via the critic actually showing interest in the project with their critique) to be more effective to stimulate improvement than a cold, blunt, unimpressed delivery.

The internet is merciless enough as it is, but it's what we have to share with the world so I hope more people utilize this advice like I do when I check out and critique indie games.

One thing that I didn't get to explain in #Devruary that I feel EVERY dev should understand:

A REALLY good practice for game development is to make sure the target audience learns of the game and doesn't forget about it (more in article, PLEASE READ)

Mae Borowski is the main character of Night in the Woods! It's an adventure game that tells the story of her return to her hometown of Possum Springs. She was confirmed as canonically pan in a social media post by the game's creator Scott Benson.

So I made this helpful little chart back when I made the storyboard to canonize the age range of the "Center 10" eternals of the Eternal Frenemies story!

The "REWIND shorts" refer to the Gacha Series I made to flesh out their school days(more in article)

Crazy how it's almost been four years since I completed the entire woulda-been-film storyboard...

And here we are now, with this same scene being playable through choices in the demo (with MUCH better art too)!
