Okay, so my stupid brainless older brother just disconnected the drive while the PC was lagging (probably communicating with said drive to fix things)
I think we found the definitive culprit of the drive failure. 
Sorry for being negative these past few days. All of them were ridden with bad luck and sickness. The drive failure more so and many more unforeseen events.
