Project Atral: The Riddle of Durendare

The end of Project Atral.

After two weeks of reflection, i’ve decided to officially end the development of Project Atral.

It has always been a personal learning project rather than a planned full release. Project Atral was in development for 12 months, with the surgery pause excluded. Over the last year I’ve achieved everything I set out to learn: building environments, creating assets, textures and animations, setting up UI and sound systems, and understanding the core structure of Unreal Engine. I wanted a deeper understanding of game development, and i got it. For me, the project has successfully fulfilled its purpose.

Additionally, the time and effort required for game development have negatively affected my health. Sitting for long periods, looking at the screen and intensive work on the project have worsened my physical condition, so stepping back is necessary.

Because of this, I no longer see the need to continue development. I’d rather close this chapter with a complete and stable learning experience than drag it on while damaging my physical health.

Thanks to everyone who followed the progress, shared ideas, and showed interest. Your support made this journey more enjoyable, but Project Atral will stay as it is - a finished learning milestone.

Closed Alpha V2.0 is the last playable version.

New contents:

- Stairs to the cottages

- Wooden pillars for the cottages

- Door numbers

- Mini Map frame has a higher resolution now

Fixed problems:

- Newly placed trees are no longer standing rotated. Thanks to @KingCobra1998 for the help!

I've modeled and textured a modular ramp today. All by hand in Blender and Substance Painter. I'm using it for the docks. The Durendares transported horses and wares up and down to the docks.

The cottages are now done and have been placed into their final positions. What's left to do is fill them up with furniture and make custom collisions.

TORUN - the first stallion in the project! Now Rabica's not alone on the island anymore. His textures are work in progress, but i still wanted to see them in the engine before deciding how to enhance them. Torun is currently not playable.

Despite horrible neck pain, i'm working on the foal model, which is supposed to be in the herd of horses on the island.

It was a sh!t ton of work to do that, but the settings menu and the main menu are now mostly working! In the main menu only "new game" and "quit" work so far. The closing of the settings menu is still buggy. Working on fixing it!

I've achieved a lot today. The protagonist and player character - Mikhal - is inside the engine and playable! You won't see his head though, because of first person perspective. Time for a pause! My body hurts from sitting around for so long!

New features:

- Audio settings menu

- Simple day-night-cycle

Fixed problems:

- Double pause menu

- Oversized buttons

The widget of the audio settings menu works fine now, yet the settings themselves not. Working on it!

The unsolvable problem in the settings menu caused me to rework it. It's now only accessible by the pause menu. The settings menu got only slightly reworked. The "back" button is bigger and i had to put in a background.

Part 2!

New contents:

- Floor texture for the insides of the cottages

- Game banner when starting up the project
